Lightning Round Reviews #20, Bathroom Edition!

I made the (genius) decision to put a warmer in our spare bathroom several months ago.
Best. Decision. Ever.
Not only do I love it, but guests love it, too! I get so many comments and questions about the wax that's melting, why it smells so good in there, and how it all works. Nothing like converting people!

Well, since making this change, I have accumulated quite a bit of empties. I am going to do several of these Lightning Round Review posts featuring my bathroom melts, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Here's post #20!

Closet Full of Wax's Sticky Serendipity Taffy
Cold Rating: 6/10

Overall Rating: 4/10; sad about this one. I have heard that Closet Full of Wax has changed their wax formula since I last ordered and wax excited to see an improvement, but this wasn't very strong. I had to be in the bathroom or close to it to smell anything. I didn't get much taffy from this, but instead a super sweet serendipity, when I did smell it. Lasted 6 hours in the bathroom but couldn't notice much.

Daphne's Divine's Cotton Candy Boo Berry Watermelon
Cold Rating: 6.5/10
Lit Rating: 6/10
Throw Rating: 5/10
Overall Rating: 6/10; slightly rounded up on this one. While the throw was right about a medium, the scent was a good combination of scents! I like Daphne's watermelon and cotton candy, and with the addition of Boo Berry (blueberry?), it just took it over the top. Obviously, this could have been stronger, but it was a nice background scent. Didn't travel that far out of the hallway, though. I left this in the warmer for about 8 hours and it declined a little bit ever 2 hours, I'd say.

Lake Providence Lodge's Fresh Pear

Overall Rating: 7.5/10; this was my first melt from this vendor out of the Simply Sensational Sampler, and WOW! For being a pear scent, which seems basic, this was juicy, strong, and delicious. I LOVED this! I had it melting for 12 hours, but I'd say it lasted about 6 before it started to reduce in throw. Even when I dumped it, I could still smells whispers of this!

Lake Providence Lodge's Vanilla Shortbread

Throw Rating: 6.5/10
Overall Rating: 6.5/10; very good shortbread scent! Not overwhelming at all, and it did have that buttery note I usually despise, but it wasn't bad in this scent shot. Lasted 6 hours, definite repurchase. I might be making an order with this company in the near future!

iheartwax's Eggnog Vanilla Wafers

Overall Rating: 4.5/10; rounded slightly down...this smelled okay on cold sniff, but while warming, something in the eggnog part of this was very displeasing to my nose. Now, keep in mind, this is just my nose! It smelled very strange, almost like burnt spiced. I have had other vanilla wafers scents from iheartwax, so that's how I know it's the eggnog I didn't like. It was on the high end of medium in strength, but I only had it in the warmer for an hour. Not a repuch, obviously.

iheartwax's Pink Coconut Leaves

Overall Rating: 7.5/10; just lovely! On cold sniff, I only got coconut leaves (which is a Bath & Body Works type), but while warming, the muskiness of the pink sugar came through and made this really lovely. Quite strong, could smell this throughout the house, but it wasn't overpowering. Repurchase! This is a great spring/summer blend!

iheartwax's Serendipity Coconut Leaves

Overall Rating: 6/10; there wasn't a lot of the serendipity in here, but I'm sure that's because serendipity contains coconut, and this is basically a sweeter coconut scent. I liked it, but not as much as I did pink coconut leaves. Not as strong as its counterpart, either. When I reorder, I'll opt for the other one. This was nice, though, it just lacked something to give it that UMPH!

iheartwax's Strawberry Pink Serendipity

Overall Rating: 7.5/10; lovely combination of sweet strawberry and pink sugar serendipity! This one was a winner for me and it was absolutely a winner for our guests. I had lots of compliments on this one! Great strength in throw as well as while warming, and I think I melted this one for 5-6 hours. Nice!!

Aunt Smellman's Fountain of Youth

Overall Rating: 7/10; HO-LY-COW. This was INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEly strong! Unfortunately, we didn't care for it as it was very, very perfumey. I was excited for this on cold sniff and I even hoarded it for a while, but when it was warming, we just didn't like it as much. It was truly crazy how strong this was, like, can't get it out of the curtains strong. I melted something after this and it mixed with this scent for the first hour. It's scent throws like this that I am searching for in life...if only I had enjoyed it. Not a repurchase, but if you like perfumey scents, DAMN!

Aunt Smellman's Oceans

Overall Rating: 4/10; sad about this one, too. Another scent I hoarded, but this time, it wasn't strong at all. You had to be right on top of it to smell anything. This was a great ocean scent on cold sniff, you even got bits of ozone and greens in there, but while warming, nada. Sadness! Not a repurchase, and I think I only had this (entire clamshell) in the warmer for 2-2.5 hours. :(

JLCCW's Avalon

Overall Rating: 5/10; this smells really nice on cold sniff, but while warming, it sort of smelled like eucalyptus and something...off. I didn't care for it at all, and almost added pink sugar to it before I just decided to dump it. Not a fan, lasted 3 hours but would have gone on longer if I'd let it.

JLCCW's Strawberry Passion & Vanilla Bean Noel

Overall Rating: 7/10; good balance between vanilla bean noel and sweet strawberry! UGH I hate it when I melt good items from closed vendors, it makes me so depressed, LOL. This was nice, but the cinnamon on top got burned into the bottom of my warmer and took WEEKS to get it all out. ICK! Lasted 5-6 hours and liked it a lot.

Aunt Nena's Swingin' Grandmas Eggnog
Cold Rating: 6/10

Overall Rating: 7/10; this one had a great balance of creaminess and spice! I liked it a lot and continued to be impressed with what I have melted from Aunt Nena's! This lasted less than the others from this company I have melted, about 4 hours, but I still liked it while it was going! Nice!

Weekend Wax Review: May 31-June 2

I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not, but Josh bought me a Keurig Coffee Maker for my birthday! I have had my eye on one for about a year and a half or two years, figured they'd go down in price eventually, and that Josh was good with our drip coffee machine (that my grandma bought me when I turned 18...9 years ago, ha!). Well, I had forgotten about it, and then received it for my birthday! WOO!

I am addicted to coffee, and the Keurig is pretty dang amazing. The pods are a bit more expensive than ground or whole bean coffee per cup (I think?), but we also have an attachment that you can use for your own coffee grounds. I'M IN LOVE! Now, before I start sounding like an infomercial for Keurig, here are some wax reviews!

Sweet Fixations Honeyed Almond not only had a terrible throw, but it also smelled terrible. All I got from this was waxiness, and it wasn't pleasant. It also smelled like sour milk. I only melted it for thirty minutes on Friday morning, and quickly got rid of it. I wouldn't repurchase this. This gets a 2/10 all around. I was super disappointed because this is one of my favorite blends.

Candles from the Keeping Room's Merry Berry Chutney was nice, and Josh liked it, too! Nice berry scent mixed in with other types of light spices. On cold sniff, 6/10, on warm throw, 6.5/10. The throw was good with a 6.5/10, for a total of 6.5/10! I might repurchase this! It also lasted for 3.5 hours.

Crabby Candle Co.'s version of Pink Sugar is definitely one of the least bit "abrasive, in-yo-face" versions I have ever smelled. It had a weird subtlety to it that I enjoyed on cold sniff, but the throw was just not there while warming. I would repurchase, but would use way sooner than I did, since this is soy. On cold sniff, 6/10, while warming, 5/10. The throw was a 4/10, for a total of 5/10. It lasted 4 hours with minimal throw, I just kept getting wisps of this.

Decided to dip into my Closet Full of Wax stash and melt one of my own creations, Serendipity Vanilla Bean Noel, in the bedroom. Again, not very much there. It lasted for about an hour, then the scent was completely gone. The cold throw smell was light, too. So, on cold sniff, 4/10, while warming, 3.5/10. The throw was a 3.5/10, for a total of 3.5/10. Not a repurchase for me.

In the kitchen, I also had Jack Be Nimble Candle Creations Raspberry Sangria melting much to my delight! I am usually not an alcoholic drink fan in wax (in real life, THAT'S another story), but this scent shot was EXCELLENT! Pure amazement! It was sweet, fruity, no real hints of fizz (though sangria isn't fizzy), and ridiculously strong! I could smell it in the bedroom AND outside! Awesome, definitely a repurchase, and lasted for 7 hours. On cold sniff, 7/10. While warming, 8/10. The throw is a 9/10, for a total of 8/10! YUM! Try out JBN Candles, Paul's stuff is brilliant!

At the same time, in the bedroom, I melted Front Porch's Tea & Danish. I have been big into tea scents lately and this didn't disappoint! There was a danish sweetness to this that didn't overpower the tea. It was really great, and it even inspired me to drink a glass of hot tea while melting! Ha! On cold sniff, 7/10, while warming, 7.5/10. The throw was a 7.5/10 as well, for a total of 7.5/10! Lasted 4.5 hours, definite repurchase!

Nighttime melt on Friday! Rosegirls Peppermint brittle was suuuper strong when I received my package, but I don't know what happened. The brittle scent got almost completely diminished somehow. Could it be the paper bags? Not sure, but this got really light all around. I give it a 4/10, but, if I would have melted it when I received the package, it would have been a 7.5/8. It was insanely strong, but something happened to make it die. :(

*Just for fun, here's my first Rosegirls pie, from an order I made earlier this year. The scents are pink sugar, vanilla butter, and serendipity. AMAZING!

Shayz's Scent's Pinkended Pomegranate was a very nice fruity and pink scent! The fruit was super citrusy without being awfully tart. The pink sugar toned this down. On cold sniff, 6/10, and while warming, 7/10. The throw was a 5/10, for a total of 6/10; I would repurchase this and it lasted for about 4.5 hours in the kitchen.

Another old photo for a new melt! Streetman Candle Co.'s Wossamotta U was really great, melted it in the spare bedroom. It was fruity, sugary, and there was definitely wildberry mousse in here; it smelled like wildberry mousse's sweeter cousin! So good! On cold sniff, 6/10, while warming, 7.5/10. The throw was a 6.5/10, for a total of 6.5/10! Repurchase for sure, and it lasted 8 hours in the spare bedroom! It mixed well with the pinkended pomegranate from Shayz!

For the rest of the day in the kitchen, I melted Streetman Candle Co.'s Wildberry Mousse, to compliment the Wossamotta U. Lovely, just lovely! On cold sniff, 6.5/10, and while warming, 7/10. The throw was a 6.5/10, for a total of 6.5/10! Repurchase x 100!

Saturday's nighttime melt: The Bathing Garden's Dream Within A Dream! How should I put this...herbal lavender meets sleepytime goodness? This was really nice, but you have to be in the mood for something super herbal and something super strong. This worked well at night, I slept pretty good, too! On cold sniff, 8/10, and while warming, 8.5/10. The throw was a 7.5/10, for a total of 8/10, and I might repurchase it!

(ANOTHER OLD PHOTO, WUT) Sweet Fixation's take on Serendipity was decent, melted this in the office, but expected a bit more from it after curing for almost...6-7 months? Oh well! It was just okay, I give this a 5.5/10 across the board. It lasted 3.5 hours.

Rosegirls Pina Colada Cotton Candy seemed weird to me...why would you mix cotton candy with pina colada? But, it really worked! I melted this in the kitchen and it lasted about 7 hours! I really liked the super sweet cotton candy mixed with a tropical scent, but I wish it would have been a bit stronger. This one gets a 6/10 across the board, and a repurchase is in the foreseeable future!

Sunday's nighttime melt: The Bathing Garden's Sleepy and one of my favorite pink peppermint scents! This time I used the last 2 cubes from my clamshell, but have 2 more back-ups! I just love this scent...it's sweet, but the peppermint is definitely the main note here. The Bathing Garden is amazing. Anyways, the cold sniff on this is 6.5/10, and the melted is 7/10. The throw is about a 6/10, for a total of 6.5/10, but I find I don't need to be choked out by this if I'm sleeping anyways, you know? Love it. Will repurchase forever.

Overall Rating: 4/10 (slightly rounded up, I guess...the biggest disappointment of the bunch. This is a new vendor, and the first thing I have melted from Molten Melts. This was not strong AT ALL. I had to basically be drowning on top of the wax to smell anything while warming. Will try in a smaller room to see if the throw is consistent between large and small rooms...).

Tiffany Candles Candy Cane

Overall Rating: 6.5/10 (a lovely, sweet minty scent! Nice for any time of the year; love the red glitter on there, Tiffany!).

Front Porch's Vanilla Grapefruit

Overall Rating: 5.5/10 (weird B.O. smell coming from this tart, must have been from the grapefruit part because the vanilla smelled nice over the off-note. It was sort of there while melting, but it dissipated quickly. Not super strong while warming, though).

Yankee Candle's Simply Home: Fresh Water

Overall Rating: 7.5/10 (an amazingly fresh scent, great throw, but terrible burn most of the way...you can see residue at the bottom. Well, the wick caved in on itself towards the end, so it won't light anymore, but the scent is spectacular. I am lucky I got another one of these from Marshall's when I did!).

Front Porch's Pink Tea

Overall Rating: 6.5/10 (the "pink" in 97.2651008666% of Front Porch's "pink" scents is virtually non-existent. That being said, the tea note was nice).

Tiffany Candles Summer Creamsickle

Overall Rating: 7.5/10 (I thought I wasn't an orange fan, but this was amazing! I loved it! I got it for Josh since he is a fan of orange scents...I think the problem is orange bakery, I just don't like them in food or in wax. Yucka. Anywho, brilliant scent, would love this in a candle).
