Winter seems to have skipped out on San Diego this year, except for last weekend.
I mean, I can count on one hand the number of days we've had that were "cold." Not that it ever gets that cold here to begin with, but it's sort of pointless to melt winter scents when it's 83 degrees outside.
Tropical Passion from Rosegirls continues with the tropical drink themed weekends I seem to be having lately. Unlike Pink Sangria from LSC, this scent DOES have coconut and pineapple notes in it, which isn't bad, just different! In fact, I think this scent is ALL pineapple and pina colada, if I'm not mistaken! As far as strength goes, this wasn't terribly strong, but it wasn't weak, either...just right in the middle for everything, actually. This lasted about 6-7 hours with a medium throw, which is usually good enough for me with a scent like this. I have had some pina colada types of scents from other vendors that are insanely strong, but this just didn't do it for me. It was nice as a background scent, but that's pretty much it. If you're looking for a tropical type of scent, Rosegirls has many, many other blends for this type of occasion!

Rosegirls Tropical Passion
Cold Rating: 6/10; pineapple and coconut goodness, but this is just medium!
Lit Rating: 5/10; again, just average warm throw. It's got all the classical elements of a pina colada.
Throw Rating: 5/10; sorry to be repetitive, but average throw as well, but it did last quite a while even though it was medium overall.
Overall Rating: 5/10; this scent is okay, but nothing truly different. More beverage scents. Boozie. Pretty yellow and pink chunks. I LOVE WAX CHUNKS!!! Needing a better fan for the living room because it's TOO.DANG.HOT. Running out of chunks from Rosegirls sampler!!
A blog devoted to any and all things scented, from candles to soaps and food and everything in between, with the occasional subscription box review, too!

Review: Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets
Do you have one designated day that you do laundry every week, or do you wait until you run out of clothes and have mountains to do?
I ask because my system is broken.
I can never just get my ass in gear to do laundry! Maybe it's because our washer pipe has a leak, maybe it's because the washer and dryer are in the garage and it's ~*s0o0o0o0o0o far away~* or maybe it's because no matter what the stupid basket weighs 49827598042509827 pounds, but I need a new system.
Regardless, when I am in "laundry mode," I am unstoppable. I have to have laundry or clean or fresh scents going...something about the smell of the detergent mixed with the scent of grassy socks (LOL) gets my in the mood to launder!
I reached for Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets because pink plus anything is bound to be good, right?
...ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I spoke too soon.
Some of you might like this.
(I've come to find out there's a scent out there for everyone, even if you personally feel like it's horrible and putrid.)
This is neither of those things, but it's most definitely not my favorite laundry scent. Heck, it's not even my favorite laundry scent from Front Porch!
To me, this smells like some sort of topical cream you might find in a Walgreens. Or something from a hospital. Well, the "laundry" part, anyways. Is it weird that it smelled a little yeasty? Despite this description, it's not bad, but it's not that good, either. It was strong, though, so does that count for something? I think the pink sugar is what saves this from being downright awful. I probably let this go on for too long at about 4 hours, but I'm sure it would have thrown like a champ for many more.
Needless to say, I wouldn't repurchase this.
~~~~~~~~~~
Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets
Cold Rating: 5/10; none of what I smell while warming (medicated cream, yeastiness, Walgreens) are there on cold sniff. It just smells like a stranger laundry scent with small hints of pink sugar.
Lit Rating: 3/10; nope.
Throw Rating: 8/10; strong throw, if only this scent was actually good!
Overall Rating: 5/10; not a fan of this. Needing laundry day revamping. Cannot discount this scent's strength but still slightly rounded down. Stupid leaking pipe connected to washer. Water damage. WASHER TOO FAR. Walgreens smells funky. Go on, girl.
Review: Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy's Serendipity Marshmallows
Serendipity used to be my favorite scent.
I couldn't get enough of it.
So, as many of us waxies do, we buy what we like. I ended up with an overabundance of serendipity and eventually got to HATING it.
I couldn't even stomach it for months...
...well, on Oscar Sunday this past weekend, I found myself reaching for my old friend.
Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy has one of the best, strongest serendipity scents in the wax world. Who am I kidding...Shanna makes some of the strongest stuff period!
Anyways, when I dipped into my big ol' box o' wax, I found this scent shot just calling my name. It was just what I needed to get back into serendipity again!
On cold sniff, it might be hard to tell that there is marshmallow in this because it really does smell like just serendipity. Upon melting, the coconut is strong here, and when mixed with the marshmallow, almost reminds me of a coconut cream pie type without the crust. The cherry is there, but it's not as strong as the coconut. I think the sweetness of the marshmallow really sets this apart from regular old serendipity proper. This scent was very strong for the first 4 hours and lessened after that for another 3 hours. I didn't mind, though, because I grew tired of it after it was fizzling.
I would definitely buy this scent again and am thinking about placing another order with Shanna in the near future because of this scent. It's a good'un, friends!
~~~~~~~~~~
Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy's Serendipity Marshmallows
Cold Rating: 8/10; very strong on cold sniff and a much welcome surprise back into the world of serendipity! Lovely! Hard to find marshmallow versus serendipity sweetness overall.
Lit Rating: 8/10; JUST FANTASTIC. I don't mind that this has less cherry while warming because it's so good, though in a perfect world, it would. Sweet, strong, sassy.
Throw Rating: 8/10; very strong throw, I could smell this through our pocket door and into the TV room. Melodious, not odious!
Overall Rating: 8/10; crazy 8's across the board. Needed more cherry. Serendipity should be a drink flavor. Please don't think I'm an alcoholic. Marshmallow fluff is good stuff. Very good throw. Love this company, hard to get RTS anymore. Custom orders, huzzah!

Wickless Wednesday: Current Favorite Songs!
Every now and then, I like to share my favorite music at the moment.
I'm not sure if I have mentioned, but I am a music freak! I would also love to know what your favorite songs and albums are right now, so PLEASE share in the comments section what you're jammin' to these days!! :)
"Carry On" by fun. is a really great song! It truly showcases the lead singer's voice and singing ability, IMO. The songs basic message is to just carry on through whatever bad stuff comes your way, that it can always be worse, but to lift your head up and muster through it! Love this one.
As much as I say I don't like Katy Perry, here she is, for the second music post, popping up in my life to destroy my musical street cred. "Dark Horse" is so damn catchy! I blame my friend Cz for getting this song stuck in my head.
"Wings" by Birdy has recently been featured in two movie trailers, the first is for "Labor Day" and the second is for "Winter's Tale" (UGH). In a full theater and with no shame, I Shazam'd this song and instantly downloaded it when we got home. I love Birdy's voice, it's sort of hauntingly amazing. Fantastic song, I urge you to try and hear it!
We can trust each other, right?
I want to tell you a secret.
I am in love with Macklemore, that fierce ginger that he is. This song has basically no appeal in my life since I don't care about cars, and yet I am obsessed. "White Walls" is NSFW, so be careful when listening.
Lorde is another really fantastic singer I am loving at the moment. "Team" is her latest song, but you might know her based on her first hit, "Royals." There seems to be a trendy in haunting types of voices lately, and I'm personally loving the change from the bubblegum-pop artists. Plus, she has a lot to say about music these days.
Keane's "Everybody's Changing" is a flashback song for me. This is band I could never get tired of. I've recently rediscovered this tune and love it just as much as I did a few years ago. The lyrics really apply to every point in life, and it is songs like this that make me love music so much, ones that connect with life and the soul.
One of my favorite songs from the recent films (the movie "Her") has to be "The Moon Song," sung by Karen O. She is the lead singer of Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, and she's incredible. If you're not familiar with her music, you should try and check her out because really, she's good! This song was nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars this year, but was beaten by "Let It Go" from the movie "Frozen." This song is short, but sweet. Love the song, and loved the movie "Her."

Review: Lasting Scent Candles Pink Sangria (type)
All you actual weather-havers out there are going to think I'm silly for saying this, but it rained this weekend. I don't mean a little bit, it rained A LOT.
So much so that part of our backyard got a little bit flooded.
There was a crack in my window and the flood board of the passenger seat of my car got drenched. #SanDiegoProblems
HEY, before you get all judgy-wudgy, know that we don't get rain here very often, as referenced by our DROUGHT. :(
...type? Anyone know what the "type" here is referring to? (Nevermind, it's a Bath & Body Works type)
Anywho, being stuck inside this weekend, I wanted something fruity, but not something overly tropical like a straight-up coconut or pineapple scent. Pink Sangria sounded like just the thing to hit the spot.
I have been reaching for my Lasting Scent Candles tarts more often mainly because I feel like if I use them up, the Wax Goddesses will look down upon me and I will be able to re-order from them when they reopen! Well, hopefully. ;)
This scent was nice, decent in strength, and you could actually smell the drink in this! It was a fruit explosion with citrus notes, raspberry, grapes, and, well, lots of wine!
Unfortunately, the problem with this scent shot is that it fizzled rather quickly. I think I only got about 3.5 hours of go-time with this scent shot. I would repurchase this again because I liked it so much, but I wish the performance would have been different for me! That being said, it may do better in a different type of warmer. If you're looking for something tropical without being too coconutty or pineappley, this is your thing!
~~~~~~~~~~
Lasting Scent Candles Pink Sangria (type)
Cold Rating: 6.5/10; having never had sangria in real life, I'd imagine it is just as winey as this tart smells on cold sniff. I smell alcohol, grape, berry, and a citrus note. This is good!
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; this is a very good drink scent and can be classified as such because you can actually smell the drink/alcohol part. Often, that note gets lost in the shuffle. This tart is not overwhelming, though! Fruity, fun, but I wish the "pink" in this wasn't just a name...a little pink sugar never hurt anything. ;)
Throw Rating: 6/10; this one had a good throw, but it fizzled fast. Unfortunately, I like my scents to last a long time! But, while it lasted, it did pack a nice medium punch.
Overall Rating: 6.5/10; nice on a rainy day. Tropical without being too pina colada. Again, wanting a gigantic drink with an umbrella. Fizzy lifting drink. Wine. Never trying sangria. Grape jelly is a newly discovered love. Wish this had lasted longer!
Review: The Melting Fairy Wax Co.'s Box #2 Melted Review!
Hey friends! Better late than never, right? Box #2 from The Melting Fairy has been melted and tried and tested. Now, onto my thoughts! Looking forward to reviewing box #3, which I'm almost finished melting!
The Melting Fairy's Strawberry Passion
Cold Rating: 7/10; to me, this smells like a vanilla strawberry candy or cream-pop: luscious, sweet, fruity and with that "whipped" smell, almost like mousse.
Lit Rating: 6/10; surprisingly, this wasn't as strong while warming, not by much, but I could detect a difference. That being said, it still smelled nice!
Throw Rating: 5/10; medium throw that lasted 4 hours and lessened a bit more over the next 2 hours, for a total of 6 hours. Could have been stronger, but it wasn't too invasive.
Overall Rating: 6/10; great scent from box #2. Dropped off a bit in throw, but lasted a decent amount of time. This scent was nice, perfect for any kind of weather.
The Melting Fairy's Orange Cream Swirl Cake
Cold Rating: 7.5/10; this smells DIVINE. It's almost like a real dessert, like a 50/50 bar but with cake and frosting. OMG, it's hard not to rave about the cold sniff smell of this. Mmmmm, it's almost like I can taste the cake now!
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; The scents and throw on most of the melts I have had from The Melting Fairy are medium-ish, and this is no exception. Most of the time, I like my bakery scents medium, but this time, I wished it would have been in mah face strong because IT WAS SO GOOD.
Throw Rating: 6/10; the throw was a medium, too, which lasted 6-ish hours. I didn't want to relinquish this from my warmer so I left it until there was nothing left.
Overall Rating: 7/10; my favorite scent from this box. Wanting to have cake so, so badly. Delicious smelling, very realistic cake with frosting scent! Needing to find a recipe for an actual dessert like this.
The Melting Fairy's Orange Chai Tea
Cold Rating: 3.5/10; I just...did not like this scent. At all. It was oddly perfumey and soapy combined. I didn't smell any chai, any spice, or any tea on cold sniff.
Lit Rating: 3/10; as much as I didn't like this on cold sniff, I liked it even less while warming. It reminded me of this store I used to walk by at the mall when I was younger...overly perfumey, more mature, and again, no spice or chai or tea. This was almost musty, too.
Throw Rating: 4/10; the throw on this was low-medium, but I'm not complaining. Too much more of this scent would have been overkill.
Overall Rating: 3.5/10; my least favorite scent from this box. Reminders of horrible smells from my youth. Teenage dirtbag. No spice, no chai, unfortunately. Distance from tea scents. Needing real tea right now!
The Melting Fairy's Fruity Loops
Cold Rating: 7.5/10; strong for a fruit loops scent! Nice mix of cereal and that lemon scent that always comes out when you smell a fruit loops scent.
Lit Rating: 6/10; not sure what else to say considering pretty much everyone in the wax community knows how fruit loops smells, and this is good!
Throw Rating: 7/10; strong throw for about 4 hours, medium throw for 1.5 hours, low-medium throw for about 3 hours. Pretty long lasting for fruit loops!
Overall Rating: 7/10; your average fruit loops scent, but pretty dang strong! Fizzled kinda fast, but I could still smell this for a long time. Needing to eat cereal from a cup instead of a bowl and for dessert instead of breakfast.
The Melting Fairy's Coco Mango
Cold Rating: 5/10; I don't feel strongly one way or the other about this scent. It's okay, but nothing special. The coconut is a fresh one, and the mango is pretty sweet, but it's still nothing to write home about.
Lit Rating: 5/10; average tropical-type scent. Nice coconut, eclipsed by fruity mango.
Throw Rating: 4/10; not a stellar throw on this one, low-medium, and I could smell wisps of it as I moved around the hallway near the bathroom.
Overall Rating: 5/10; I hate to be so "meh" about this, but it really smells like any other tropical scent. It's not bad, but not a fav.
I find most of the melts are a medium for throw while decent on cold sniff. There are always exceptions, though! Box #3 has already been cracked wide opened and I only have a few left to melt. Look for the review shortly!
Review: Ava's Country Cupboard's Celtic Moonspice
...aaaaaaaaaaaand I'm back to the spicy spicy scents. I can't stay away for too long or I start to go crazy.
I ordered once from Ava's Country Cupboard in the middle-fall of 2012 and didn't have the best of luck with her wax. Some of it was really downright smelly (sorry, but it's the truth!), and other tarts were fine, but nothing blew me away. Well, I'm a firm believer in second chances, so I made another small order at the end of 2013 to try some of her tarts again. I was pleased to see that her bags had changed since I had last ordered, and she is now offering TONS of shapes and an expanded scent list. WOOHOO! Plus, free shipping with a $10 order (at the time, not sure if this is still going on or not), I mean, how can you beat that?!
When I spotted one of my favorite scents on her ready-to-ship list, I knew I needed to try it! Ava's Celtic Moonspice came in a biiiiiiiiiiiig bread loaf, and I mean BIG. It might not look like it from the picture, but I could have easily gotten 2, perhaps 3 melts out of this.
Well, being the dope that I am, I didn't cut it up and put the entire thing in my warmer. Go big or go home, right?!
This scent was nice. It's your average celtic moonspice, cozy, comforting, homey, spicy, so I really had no qualms about how it smelled or what it would be like. This lasted 2 days in the bedroom, only because I didn't want to part with it. The scent started out medium-ly and fizzled throughout the course of those 2 days. Could it have been stronger? Yes, but I find I don't need my celtic moonspices to be sucker-punch strong. It was just a nice background scent, something I will always like and always look forward to melting!
~~~~~~~~~~
Ava's Country Cupboard's Celtic Moonspice
Cold Rating: 6.5/10; it's hard not to love the comforting aroma of spices, and this is no exception. Lighter than other celtic moonspice scents I've smelled, but not weak by any stretch of the imagination.
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; it's a nice, reasonable scent, nothing too special, yet just what I wanted. So, so lovely.
Throw Rating: 6/10; medium throw, not as overpowering as this scent from other vendors, and threw for a very, very long time (perhaps because I threw in the entire loaf?).
Overall Rating: 6/10; nothing special, but something loved. Medium all around. Giving vendors a second chance and benefit of the doubt. Changed wax bags.

Well, I'm a firm believer in second chances, so I made another small order at the end of 2013 to try some of her tarts again. I was pleased to see that her bags had changed since I had last ordered, and she is now offering TONS of shapes and an expanded scent list. WOOHOO! Plus, free shipping with a $10 order (at the time, not sure if this is still going on or not), I mean, how can you beat that?!
When I spotted one of my favorite scents on her ready-to-ship list, I knew I needed to try it! Ava's Celtic Moonspice came in a biiiiiiiiiiiig bread loaf, and I mean BIG. It might not look like it from the picture, but I could have easily gotten 2, perhaps 3 melts out of this.
Well, being the dope that I am, I didn't cut it up and put the entire thing in my warmer. Go big or go home, right?!
This scent was nice. It's your average celtic moonspice, cozy, comforting, homey, spicy, so I really had no qualms about how it smelled or what it would be like. This lasted 2 days in the bedroom, only because I didn't want to part with it. The scent started out medium-ly and fizzled throughout the course of those 2 days. Could it have been stronger? Yes, but I find I don't need my celtic moonspices to be sucker-punch strong. It was just a nice background scent, something I will always like and always look forward to melting!
