Random Post: The Unfortunate Tales of Broken Foot McGee, AKA: ME

So, I decided it would be a good idea to break my foot last week.

Allow me to formally say: FML.

Though I don't need a cast or surgery, it hurts to put weight on it. It's broken on the right side on my foot at the 5th metatarsal, right in the middle of the bone, and it's a clean break, so nothing is disjointed. That's positive, I guess, but I'm still basically stuck.

I already had crutches from a (read: several) previous injury, so that combined with this stupid "walking" boot that weighs like 10 pounds.....it just makes for a crappy, unfortunate time. At least it waited unto after my mom's wedding to happen (still waiting for pictures from that, by the way, then I will share them!).

Does anyone have experience with broken bones? I am already sick of watching TV and movies, and I am swiftly moving on to books. Any suggestions? I am starting with "The Fault in Our Stars."

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do with a broken bone where you can't move or walk or do a lot? I'd love to know! I am still trying to get up and "walk" around a little each day, but after so long, it starts to hurt. :(

Once I find a way to get all my wax photos (that are stored on my desktop) onto my laptop, I'll be updating the blog with some waxy stuff. I miss you all and hope you're all doing well! <3

  1. Read the Mortal Instruments series. =) Lordee, I could rattle off an endless list of books.......

You could use this time to watch 2 seasons of Vikings, 3 seasons of Suits, and 3 seasons of Game of Thrones. Oh, and there is Sleepy Hollow, and The Tudors, and..........

Hope you're up and running marathons soon!

  2. Having a broken bone is the pits :( I've had two... one of them being the same break as yours. I had to wear a cast.. be thankful you got away without one. I hope the healing time goes by for you quickly, Lauren! I don't know if you'd care for the genre of books I like, but here are some of my top favorite reads.. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/lyndabriggs/favorites

    1. This is really the worst, breaking bones, I mean. I am very lucky that I didn't need a cast and I can still somewhat function normally. Thanks for the website, I will definitely take a look! :)

    1. Well, thank you, m'dear! I have often wondered about knitting or crocheting, but I don't think I'd be any good at it. Do you have any tips or ideas for a newbie? I have to finish "The Fault in Our Stars" and I will move on to the Mortal Instruments series! :D

  4. Ugh, Lauren! Hope you're back up on your feet soon. Everyone has posted some great book suggestions. Lately I've enjoyed Anna Quindlen's "Still Life with Bread Crumbs," Stephen King's "Joyland" (mystery-ish, not his usual horror), "The 5th Wave" by Rick Yancey, and "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern.

When I'm stuck in bed or wherever and get sick of using my eyes, or want to do something with my hands like knitting or sorting photos or doing a puzzle I listening to podcasts and old episodes of This American Life.

    1. Thank you, Kate! I will put your suggestions on my Kindle! I bought myself a new Sudoku book and had Josh pick me up a word search book. I absolutely love puzzles! Do you have any other podcast suggestions? Ira Glass is a gorgeous specimen!

    2. Adore Ira! Along the same lines as This American Life, Unfictional from KCRW in LA is pretty good, and also Radio Lab. I also love Alton Brown's podcast on The Nerdist. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Sid Garza-Hillman's Approaching the Natural, but it's pretty crunchy :D

Hope you're doing ok in the heat! So not ready for this crazy weather yet :P
