Happy Piranha Geeky Candles Review!

We've got another awesome post to share with you today, movie lovers! It's full of geekdom wonderment, but it doesn't have anything to do with film reviews. No no, today, we have a set of candle reviews to share! We were sent a package from Happy Piranha for smelling and review purposes. (this is cross-posted to lololovesfilms.com)

This is a candle company who knows its way to the heart of any nerd! Do you like Harry Potter? There are candles for you! Pokemon Go more your style? Look no further than Happy Piranha! Just looking for some aromatherapy stuff to help you chill after a long week? You've come to the right place. Now, let's get into what we were sent in our package!
First, we had to share their absolutely adorable business card! We've never seen anything like it. It's so cute, and you definitely need to see both sides. It's unique, quirky, and colorful. Love it!
Here's a close-up of the three candles we were sent to review. Each candle costs about $11.05 USD and has an average burn time of 35 hours. The scents we were sent are named and described as follows:
  • Ogden's Olde cinnamon flavoured Fire Whiskey ("Warming scent of apple and cinnamon like someone has just popped the cork on an aged bottle at the inn!") (website link | etsy link)
  • Jigglypuff's Lullaby ("plump marsh mellows and cotton candy,") (website link | etsy link)
  • Hunger Games inspired Mockingjay candle ("juicy clementine ginger and orange") (website link | etsy link)
The first thing we noticed upon opening this parcel is the insane amount of detail Happy Piranha puts into their labeling. Dear god, it's truly A+ packaging. Let's get a closer look at those lids in all their glory (same order as the scents listed above, left to right).
Love these little details. The lids and labeling really take these candles to their ultimate geekiness and set them apart from other brands. Each candle is also a different color, each has a single wick, and each is in its own metal tin.
So, how did they all smell? Our favorite was Ogden's Olde cinnamon flavoured Fire Whiskey, and not just because we are huge Harry Potter fans. The throw on this candle was pretty darn good! Whenever we walked into the room, we were greeted by the inviting, alluring blend of cinnamon and apple, which is a personal favorite combination of ours. We burned this bad boy for a few hours at a time, and every time, it was awesome.
Next we tried Jigglypuff's Lullaby. While we love the look and smell of this candle before it's lit, it was also the weakest of the three by a wide margin. In fact, we had a hard time smelling it in a larger room. Our kitchen/living room/TV room are all on an open floor plan, and we could only smell faint wisps here and there of this gooey marshmallow cotton candy confection (both of which can definitely be lighter scents in general). When I brought into a smaller space, the spare bathroom, which is much more enclosed, the throw was a little better, but still pretty weak. We are bummed to say that as pretty as this one looks and as much as we love Pokemon, this candle was a miss for us.
Finally, we tried the Hunger Games inspired Mockingjay candle. This one looks the coolest out of the three we tried. Absolutely adore the Hunger Games details! This candle had a low-medium throw in the big room, but once we moved it to our bathroom (which is bigger than the spare bathroom, but not by much), it had a bit more success. This one is fruity and a little bit complex because of the ginger element. The clementine is sweet, but not too sweet, though I think the mixture interacts with one another before it's burning. It smelled strange when we huffed it before lighting the candle, but when it was burning, it was a lot more straightforward. I wish this had been a teensy bit stronger, though! Provided you burn this in an smaller/more enclosed space, you'll most likely enjoy it if you like warm/citrus blends.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Happy Piranha for letting us try these candles and sending them all the way to the states from Cornwall, England! We really appreciate you taking the time to do this for us, and we even have our eye on some other candles to order when we're finished with these three!

Please visit Happy Piranha all over the internet for your geeky/nerdy candle needs!

*these candles were sent to us free of change for review, but we were not further compensated and all thoughts are our own.

Haul AND Reviews: One Little Indian Scents Haul #1!

MORE NEW VENDORS! Woot! I heard about One Little Indian Scents on a Facebook wax group somewhere. Alisha, the owner of One Little Indian Scents, was advertising her newly opened Facebook group, so I joined and figured I'd get in on her grand opening. She has been testing her wax for a while, if I'm not mistaken. Let's see what I grabbed! There's not much because there was an overwhelming amount of bakery types of scents in her first restock. She does have some unique combinations!
Neat business card. Plus, my order came with a little lifesaver candy. Yum!
The business card, candy and my free sample were all in this cute envelope. I like the presentation of this.
I got one free sample in the form of a rather large bar of wax in the scent Berry Coconut Cream Pie, which I have already melted. I let this cure about a month and unfortunately, this scent wasn't that strong. The only thing I could smell was a faint berry scent underneath a blanket of coconut cream pie. Well, mostly pie. Whatever that coconut cream pie was, the 4/10 throw, it smelled like butter in the bathroom. It didn't linger too far out of there, though. I wouldn't purchase this scent for myself. Maybe I should have waited longer to melt this. 4/10.
Pink Slip: This is one pink slip you will want to get! Pink Chiffon, Pink Sugar, and a turn down of Vanilla Bean Noel. Even if you don't like Pink Sugar you might just enjoy this!
Pink Slip smells amazing. I love pink chiffon in both perfume and wax. And who can go wrong with pink sugar and VBN!? This smells super sweetly perfumey on cold sniff with a hint of creaminess from the VBN. Looking forward to melting this one.
Moon Dance: Rich Amber is the base for this dark but delightful scent! Sweet Cinnamon Sugar, and a hint of heady smoke adds a bit of romantic fall flair.
Moon Dance is interesting. There was a sweetness to this, but the amber note was definitely the star here. It's a richly intoxicating scent, though not as strong as I'd like it to be. Though it was only about a 6/10 all around, it lasted from 3pm one afternoon well into the next morning with a lingering scent. Nice. 6/10.
Cheerwine Fizz: This is a wonderful Cherry Soda drink yet not quite like a Cherry Cola, Cheerwine is indeed heavier on the Cherry. I blended this with just a hint of Fizzy for good measure. If you happen to live in an area that Cheerwine is sold rejoice! You can now have this yummy treat in scent form.
My mom's husband and his family loves Cheerwine, so I have been lucky enough to try it a couple times. It's delicious! It has a very distinct scent and flavor, super cherry cola, syrupy and sweet. Cheerwine Fizz here was sweet with a lots of fizziness, too. This one was stronger, and in my 24W hot plate lasted about 4 hours. I might repurchase this. 6/10.
Rosemary Mint Noel: A wonderful semi-spa blend. Rosemary paired with mint springs and a smidgen of other aromatic herbs. Vanilla Bean Noel is added in moderation to tone it down and add a bit of creamy inviting charm.
The rosemary here is suuuuper herbal, but without that usually cloyingly strong throw to back it up. The mint is sweeter to me and pretty much gets overpowered by the VBN. I pretty much got the same mediumish throw from this. I started melting it at 6pm and though it did last until the morning, it smelled like rosemary plus wax when I woke up. I did like this one a lot and it smelled nice on cold and warm throw. 6.5/10.
Serendipity Buttercream: Serendipitious! A delectable blend of Serendipity and creamy buttercream. This one makes me drool.
What could be better than sweet serendipity mixed with luscious buttercream? This scent smells really good on cold sniff. Can't wait to melt this!
Smoke on The Water: I tried to create a blend here that would capture the essence of a bonfire on the beach on a breezy summers night. The salty wind from the sea paired with the ever calming familiar scent of a bonfire.
Seas and bonfires, ahhh, what a picturesque scent in my mind. Smoke on the Water was okay, but I didn't get much of a distinction between this and any of the other bonfire, beachy sea scents. This was nice, but not great. 5.5/10.
Sugar Skulls: This Day of the Dead tradition lives on. Sugary Fruit Loops, Meringue, and a hint of Pink Sugar for good measure. These colorful candy skulls are sure to delight!
Sugar Skulls was my favorite scent of the bunch. This one was SO GOOD! Pink sugar, extra sweetness, fruit loops, it was drippingly sweet and I loved it. Plus, the throw was much higher than the others and lasted about 8 hours. Loved, definite repurchase. 7.5/10.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about ordering from this vendor again. While I like the presentation, there were just too many scents I wasn't interested in purchasing (but many others would love her blends, they just weren't for me) and I had varied throws and strengths with her wax's performances. Most of it was pretty good, but there were a couple of concerns. Who knows, only time will tell!

Will you order or have you ordered from One Little Indian Scents?

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #20: Streetman Candle Company's Peachy Keen

For the longest time, I thought I hated peach scents. In fact, I was repulsed by the idea of them. Now, I like them! Yay for growing up and giving things a chance. :P
Streetman Candle Company's Peachy Keen
Cold Rating: 7/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating: 6.5/10
Overall Rating: 7/10; medium throw eases transitions into something I thought I disliked. Very bright, cheery peach scent, nothing much more to say about that because peaches are fun! Almost like a peach candy of sorts, maybe a very minor green undertone? Lasted about 3.5-4 hours in the bedroom. Would have been a good bathroom scent, too. Love the peachy color of the wax! Apparently liking peach scents after all. Peaches & cream. 112. High school music(al). Loving rap music and completely changing my musical likes. Anyone have any peach recipes?

Review: Jaimie Lauren Cupcakery and Confections in Wax's Legally Blonde

Often times, vendors try to come up with kitschy, creative names for their scents, and sometimes, the names they choose end up being so far removed from the scent and its notes it's not even funny.
Enter Legally Blonde (AKA blonde moment).
I feel like if Elle Woods had a signature scent, it would, in fact, be Legally Blonde. It's so bubbly and fun and fruity and, for lack of a better term, "girly."
This scent is sort of out of my comfort zone, which sounds crazy because everyone likes super fruity blasts of goodness...right? Well, I do to an extent. I prefer my scents pink, or minty, or floral, or fruity on the more lemony/citrus side of life. Legally Blonde seems to have a slight fizzy note to it in general, like champagne, which really enhances the raspberry/berry fruitiness! JLCCW's version is okay, but it's not the strongest I've ever had. In fact, I like this more on cold sniff than I do while it's warming. Something in the background of this scent wasn't my favorite, and that being said, it wasn't horrible. Maybe it was a strange fruit note that isn't in other blonde moment blends? Regardless, this was nice and makes me want to watch "Legally Blonde" again. ;)

~~~~~~~~~~
Jaimie Lauren Cupcakery and Confections in Wax's Legally Blonde
Cold Rating: 7/10
Lit Rating: 6/10
Throw Rating: 6.5/10
Overall Rating: 6.5/10; pretty alright throw. Not the best legally blonde/blonde moment I've ever tried, but it's still nice. Fruit explosion with a mix of champagne, but this is mostly fruit! Lasted 5 hours in the bedroom. Scents with weird names that are called things that sound nothing like anything in their scent notes. Movies from childhood being funnier as "real" adults. That time when Reese Witherspoon went crazy when she was drunk and pulled the "don't you know who I am?" card. Funny comparisons.
Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #19: Candles from the Keeping Room's Cedarwood Vanilla
The only redeeming value of summer is the nice, long nights, which are perfect for nice, long bonfires in the backyard. In fact, we're getting ready to have one right now! ;)
The strong cedar aroma tones down with sweet vanilla Celtic Moonspice...a wonderfully fragrant blend of warm spices, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Gives you that warm home & hearth feeling, like a cozy cottage with a fireplace on a cold snow evening.
Candles from the Keeping Room's Cedarwood Vanilla
Cold Rating: 6.5/10
Lit Rating: 8/10
Throw Rating: 8/10
Overall Rating: 8/10; an unexpected favorite as of recently. Very lovely tart! Excellent throw, stellar scent, extremely pleasant. Not even necessary for fall/winter. Vanilla-y Celtic Moonspice toning down the cedarwood makes this super smooth and uber fragrant, yet spicy and delicious. Realizing I like cedarwood, which is weird. Perfect scent descriptions a la Carol. Wanting to make a spice cake or pumpkin cookies. Missing all of the CFTKR openings since October last year. Not needing any more damn wax but wanting to BUY ALL THE THINGS!!! Remnants of fall. The Fall Slut, omg, have you checked out Deb's blog lately? I CRIED, so funny!!!
Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #18: Up The Creek Scents Pink Marshmallow
If I could live in a world built of only one thing/substance, I would pick to live in a world of marshmallows.
Those things would make damn fine pillows.
Up The Creek Scents Pink Marshmallows
Cold Rating: 4.5/10
Lit Rating: 3.5/10
Throw Rating: 5.5/10
Overall Rating: 4/10; extremely uncharacteristic of Up The Creek Scents to have a "bad" scent. Didn't get any pink from this. Marshmallow had a funky undertone. Had lots of cure time but in the end, no dice. Smelled even stranger after many months. The throw wasn't stellar, either. Didn't melt this long. Possible culprit: was this a wrongly labeled tart?  It had slight stinks of zucchini in its wisps. EW Maybe pink sugar isn't their thing? Or maybe their pink sugar is on the muskier side? One "bad" tart won't dissuade me from this company, since most of the stuff I have melted from them has been pretty good. Has anyone else had this problem with their pink sugar scents??
Review: Candles from the Keeping Room's Orange Cream Filled Twinkie
I hate to admit it, but when Twinkies went away for a while there, I died a little inside.
(One of the main reasons is because, at the time, my mom's fiance worked for the company and got pretty majorly screwed over, but that's a story for another day, kids)
Twinkies are, ashamedly, delicious and wonderful and magical.
...just not in wax. For me, anyway.
Since scents like vanilla, marshmallow, and some cake blends tend to be lighter by nature, the the scent they are coupled with needs to be wonderful and bring out the good parts of the Twinkieness.
I don't know if it's the 'orange' or the Twinkie, but I didn't particularly like this scent. To me, this smelled more like something else completely mission from the scent description...I can't put my finger on it, but it almost smelled like something with watermelon. I don't know if this was mislabeled, but it sure didn't smell orangey.
Given all this, I did let it melt for quite a few hours since I (sort of) avoided the bedroom. I didn't know what to make of this one and I tend to believe it was mislabeled, or maybe I'm wrong and I just don't like it. Either way, not a repurchase for me.
~~~~~~~~~~
Candles from the Keeping Room's Orange Cream Filled Twinkie
Cold Rating: 5/10; not really bad since this is a paraffin tart.
Lit Rating: 4/10; I just didn't really like this one bit. It was strange and not orangey.
Throw Rating: 5/10; average throw, but I didn't mind because I didn't care for this.
Overall Rating: 5/10; something about orange and Twinkies doesn't match. Hostess can suck it. Twinkies > Ding Dongs. Ding dong the witch is dead? Sun Man tarts are the best! Man in the wax watching me...Paranoia setting in! WAX MAN WATCHETH!!

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #3: iheartwax's Coconut Leaves

Heeeeeey, y'all!
As you're probably all too aware, I complain a lot about the heat.
My idea of a perfect day is 65 degrees with clouds in the bright blue sky...
....but this week was not that perfect week.
This week, we have had Santa Ana winds, knocked over trees and some downer light poles, and hot, dry temperatures. It had been 90+ degrees since Monday, and we live right by the ocean! UGH.
Anyways, since it was hot here, I have been gravitating towards fruity or tropical scents. I've got one to share with you today!
iheartwax's Coconut Leaves
Cold Rating: 7/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating: 7.5/10
Overall Rating: 7/10; very authentic coconut smell. Could have been stronger. Nice dupe of the B&BW scent. Hawaii. Needing more pina coladas. Backyard is a mess from the wind. Hot weather. Sleeping with the air conditioner on. Like a hotel, but in my house.

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #2: Candles from the Keeping Room's Apple Mango Tango

I got some positive response on the last post, so I think I will continue these speedy reviews!!
Candles from the Keeping Room's Apple Mango Tango
Cold Rating: 6/10
Lit Rating: 8.5/10
Throw Rating: 8.5/10
Overall Rating: 8/10; love this laundry scent! CFTKR's take on this is stronger while warming (as usual), and it's fruity, sweet, and yet laundratic! Very nice for the bathroom and for laundry day with an impressive throw. Lasted 7 hours and faded slowly. Repurchase for sure!

Review: Streetman Candle's Raspberry/Strawberry/Bird of Paradise

Despite its (sometimes) recent dissent into crazy-town, the wax community is really awesome overall. I have had the opportunity to "meet" many cool people here, even some who I've become "waxage" friends (where we sending and receiving wax packages in the mail).
One of these friends is Jessi: you might know her from her YouTube videos.
She and I are embroiled in a wax war for the ages.
She lives in Canada, and Candles from the Keeping Room won't ship internationally. So, she has the orders sent to me and then I ship them to her (along with other wax goodies).
...one day, unexpectedly, we got a knock at the door.
"I DIDN'T ORDER MORE WAX!!!" I shouted to Josh, perplexed.
"Streetman Candle Company? I haven't ordered anything but samplers from Heather in a while...huh?"

Upon opening, I noticed a letter written by Heather, the owner of Streetman. Jessi, the sneaky devil she id, bought me a bunch of wax as a thank you! I was so surprised and grateful! She and Heather tried to pick out blends they thought I would enjoy. (If you're reading this Jessi, just know, I have something in the works...mwahahahah).

One of the first scents from the box o' goodies that grabbed my attention was Raspberry/Strawberry/Bird of Paradise. Now, Bird of Paradise is a flower, but what could be in this scent? I'm not sure, but all I know is this is delicious! It's so juicy, so sweet, and STRONG!
This 2 ounce scent shot lasted about 7.5 hours total in my 24 watt hot plate. Only in the last 2 hours did it start to go down in strength. The thing about Heather's fruity scents is that they are never overwhelming in a bad way. Her raspberry and strawberry scents are some of my favorites in all of the wax community. Her raspberry isn't that floral one you find in some other vendors...nope, just straight fruity goodness here.
Josh loved this one, too! I don't see Bird of Paradise on her scent list as of right now, but I hope she changes that! This one is GOOD, folks.

~~~~~~~~~~
Streetman Candle Company's Raspberry/Strawberry/Bird of Paradise
Cold Rating: 8/10; really nice smell right out of the "cold" gate, it's slightly tropical with hints of sugar, berries, and perhaps some citrus?
Lit Rating: 8/10; mmmmmm! We both loved this one! Super strong while melting, stayed that way for many hours. Didn't get tired of this one like I do with some fruit blends from other vendors. Heather has a knack for combining scents!
Throw Rating: 8/10; pretty great as far as throw and I could smell this a little in various parts of the house. Sweet and ripe-fruit-smelling.
Overall Rating: 8/10; another Streetman winner, excellent combination! What is in Bird of Paradise? Crazy 8's. Loving uber-fruity scents for Spring this year. Finding words to describe said fruits as "juicy." Mira I started juicing. Gin & Juice. "Juice" starring Tupac Shakur. "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry feat. Juicy J. Random tangents about juice.
Review: Haley's Heavenly Scents' Pink Christmas Cookies
You guyssssssssss...I miss Christmas. :(
Now, I personally don't know the difference between cookie cookies and Christmas cookies. They all end up in mah belly at the end of the day. Would someone care to enlighten me if they know the difference? :)
Really though, any pink blend from Haley's Heavenly Scents is sure to be a good one. Her pink scents are generally amazing.
Pink Christmas Cookies is really no exception.
On cold sniff, this just smells like a bakery and pink sugar scent, but while warming, it actually takes on more of that fresh baked cookie smell. It's really nice. I actually prefer my bakery scents with pink sugar because pink sugar makes everything in life better.
As far as warm sniff performance goes, this had a medium-high scent throw and I really haven't a thing to complain about. It was a great mix of the two scents, lasted all day (around 8 hours total), and affirmed my belief in HHS as being a pink sugar goldmine.
Look at those OILS. Dang!
~~~~~~~~~~
Haley's Heavenly Scents' Pink Christmas Cookies
Cold Rating: 6.5/10; the majority of this on cold sniff is pink sugar, but I still get a slight whiff of cookies.
Lit Rating: 7.5/10; that cookie note comes out more while melting, and when it's combined with the wonderful pink sugar from HHS, this really was quite a treat. Love this blend and I will always repurchase it.
Throw Rating: 7/10; medium-high throw and good longevity, I didn't get tired of this like I do other bakery blends. Haley's makes a bitchin' "cookie" scent.
Overall Rating: 7/10; great mix of pink sugar and warm, buttery cookies. Christmas sadness because it's gone Christmas HAPPINESS because cookies and carols and lights and happiness and family!!! Raised electric bill. LOL MIDDLE FINGER SNOWMAN. Gold everything!!!!!!!!!!!```1111~~``

Review: Jaimie Lauren Cupcakery and Confections in Wax's Wicked Watermelon Serendipity Jaimie Melon Ball Fizz

WOW, that title is a mouthful!
I have mentioned several times that I am sad that Jaimie Lauren Cupcakery and Confections in Wax closed. It is for the best for the vendor. That being said...when you get a scent or a blend that's really, really good, you sort of selfishly wish they were back.
Well, this is the case with Wicked Watermelon Serendipity Jaimie Melon Ball Fizz.
I was gifted this tart by my waxy pal Karen friend for Christmas. I was excited to see such a strange sounding blend, mainly because I know Karen likes to blend stuff that has a way of turning out really, really awesome.
JUST LIKE THIS TART.
OMG.
It smells so good while warming, even better than it does cold, in fact. On cold sniff, I really only smelled Wicked Watermelon, which I swore was a Scentsy dupe but apparently not. Don't get me wrong, I love watermelon, but I was initially disappointed because it was all I could smell.
While warming, this really bloomed!
Almost instantly, the watermelon mixed with the coconut note in the serendipity. WOW, it's a really nice combo! Also, there was a hint of sweetness unlike anything I had smelled in these two scents before, so I had to assume that was the melon ball fizz coming through. Overall, this one little scalloped tart lasted 8 hours in the bedroom and fizzled the last hour and a half or so. I would definitely buy this blend again if JLCCW comes back!

**PS (and unrelated to this post): If you have bought your hot plate warmers on Amazon.com in the recent past (particularly from Candles Warmers Etc.), PLEASE turn them over and make sure they are 24 watt hot plates, not 20 watt ones. 24 watt warmers seem to be phasing out all over the place, and lots of vendors are selling 20 watt warmers labeled on their listing as 24 watts. It makes a difference, people!**

~~~~~~~~~~
Jaimie Lauren Cupcakery and Confections in Wax's Wicked Watermelon Serendipity Jaimie Melon Ball Fizz
Cold Rating: 6/10; all I smell is watermelon on cold sniff, but it's decent enough! I was initially disappointed...
Lit Rating: 7.5/10; ...but this smells wonderful while lit! You get the coconut from the serendipity, the watermelon, and the sweet melon from the fizz scent. But, no fizz like a soda or a drink scent. This is so good! Thanks Karen!
Throw Rating: 7/10; pretty great throw, too, not disappointed with this at all.
Overall Rating: 7/10; unexpectedly good combination. Blends can bite you in the ass if they are bad. Spring means WATERMELON SCENTS!!! I don't like the fruit watermelon in real life, though. What's a melon ball fizz, is it a drink? MENTIONING DRINKS AGAIN. Another closed vendor, more sadness.
Review: The Melting Fairy Wax Co.'s Box #3 Melted Review!
Heyo!
So, my last box from The Melting Fairy trial subscription has come and gone. I'd like to thank Grace for the chance to review her wax, I had a really great time testing everything for her! I wish you much success in your waxy adventures!
Here are my reviews for the third box. Enjoy!
This time, the box had another label on it! 2/3 of them did, and I really like their really unique label!
The normal thank you note, complete with the scent description for the custom blend of the month, Valentines Day Fluff Brulee.
It seems like lots of vendors are doing chunks now, and I am not complaining. I love chunks and everything about them. They are so pretty, and this one is no exception.
The Melting Fairy's Valentine's Day Fluff Brulee (CUTE NAME!)
Cold Rating: 5/10
Lit Rating: 3/10
Throw Rating: 7/10
Overall Rating: 5/10; now, as with all my reviews, take what I have to say with a grain of salt. This chunk was too overpowering for what it was. I'm already not so much a fan of the creme brulee genre of scents, but something in this was very milky and not to my liking. That being said, that milkiness came through more when melting. But, I cannot discount how strong this scent was as far as throw. WOW. I melted this in the bathroom, and while it didn't last longer than 3 hours in my house, it would have probably gone longer, but I needed to change the scent. Not for me, but creme brulee fans might like this!
The Melting Fairy's Carrot Cake
Cold Rating: 6/10
Lit Rating: 6/10
Throw Rating: 5.5/10
Overall Rating: 6/10; a very nice interpretation of carrot cake! I wish it would have been stronger. I got little bursts of this for the first hour, and then it lasted about 5 more hours as a mellow background scent. It was spicy, yet sweet, but not overpowering. I could really pick up the cream cheesiness in this, which mainly came off as sweetness. If it was stronger, I'd buy it in bulk!
The Melting Fairy's Mango Sorbet
Cold Rating: 4/10
Lit Rating: 4/10
Throw Rating: 3/10
Overall Rating: 4/10; I was looking forward to this the most, mainly because I'm typically not a mango fan. I think it's too sweet for my liking. Well, to be honest, this just wasn't that strong. It did smell sweet and slightly tropical, but even in a smaller room like the bathroom, this wasn't super strong. I left it in the warmer for 12 hours and it was pretty much a "stand right over it to smell it. Sad.
The Melting Fairy's Lemon Meringue Pie
Cold Rating: 7/10
Lit Rating: 7.5/10
Throw Rating: 7.5/10
Overall Rating: 7.5/10; fabulous scent! This really, really smells like lemon meringue pie straight from a bakery! The throw of this was medium-high, which was a welcome surprise! I melted this in the bedroom with great results, and even smelled it from the back when we walked into the house after a movie run. Mmmmmm, now I want some pie!
The Melting Fairy's Birthday Cake
Cold Rating: 7/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating: 7.5/10
Overall Rating: 7/10; I want to bathe in this scent. Mmmmmm!!! It's just your wonderful, delicious, sweet and creamy birthday cake with lots of frosting. YUM. Really, this one is good. It lasted 5 hours in the bedroom and stayed pretty strong right until the last half hour or so!
The Melting Fairy's Iced Pineapple
Cold Rating: 5/10
Lit Rating: 4/10
Throw Rating: 4/10
Overall Rating: 4/10; the overall scent of this was fine, just a little bland. Everyone knows what pineapple smells like and that's just fine and dandy, but these 2 tarts weren't particularly that strong. At any rate, this was okay, but for a scent with not a lot going on, I should have been blown away by the throw.
This box was, again, hit or miss. Some scents do extremely well as far as scent throw and longevity, and others don't. I did not continue my subscription with The Melting Fairy, mainly because I forgot to pay for the next month, plus I was waiting for a nail polish Spring 2014 launch and was reserving funds for that. Will I continue in the future? Perhaps. I like that the box is a 3-month subscription, but some months I want to wait to buy my wax. I like that this vendor is offering such a box, but I feel like some throw and blend issues could be tweaked a bit. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to try this vendor out, and please, check out the links below to see reviews and keep up with this vendor!
Review: Rosegirls Tropical Passion
Winter seems to have skipped out on San Diego this year, except for last weekend.
I mean, I can count on one hand the number of days we've had that were "cold." Not that it ever gets that cold here to begin with, but it's sort of pointless to melt winter scents when it's 83 degrees outside.
Tropical Passion from Rosegirls continues with the tropical drink themed weekends I seem to be having lately. Unlike Pink Sangria from LSC, this scent DOES have coconut and pineapple notes in it, which isn't bad, just different! In fact, I think this scent is ALL pineapple and pina colada, if I'm not mistaken! As far as strength goes, this wasn't terribly strong, but it wasn't weak, either...just right in the middle for everything, actually. This lasted about 6-7 hours with a medium throw, which is usually good enough for me with a scent like this. I have had some pina colada types of scents from other vendors that are insanely strong, but this just didn't do it for me. It was nice as a background scent, but that's pretty much it. If you're looking for a tropical type of scent, Rosegirls has many, many other blends for this type of occasion!
~~~~~~~~~~
Rosegirls Tropical Passion
Cold Rating: 6/10; pineapple and coconut goodness, but this is just medium!
Lit Rating: 5/10; again, just average warm throw. It's got all the classical elements of a pina colada.
Throw Rating: 5/10; sorry to be repetitive, but average throw as well, but it did last quite a while even though it was medium overall.
Overall Rating: 5/10; this scent is okay, but nothing truly different. More beverage scents. Boozie. Pretty yellow and pink chunks. I LOVE WAX CHUNKS!!! Needing a better fan for the living room because it's TOO.DANG.HOT. Running out of chunks from Rosegirls sampler!!

Review: Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets

Do you have one designated day that you do laundry every week, or do you wait until you run out of clothes and have mountains to do?
I ask because my system is broken.
I can never just get my ass in gear to do laundry! Maybe it's because our washer pipe has a leak, maybe it's because the washer and dryer are in the garage and it's ~*s0o0o0o0o0o far away~* or maybe it's because no matter what the stupid basket weighs 49827598042509827 pounds, but I need a new system.
Regardless, when I am in "laundry mode," I am unstoppable. I have to have laundry or clean or fresh scents going...something about the smell of the detergent mixed with the scent of grassy socks (LOL) gets my in the mood to launder!
I reached for Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets because pink plus anything is bound to be good, right?
...ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I spoke too soon.
Some of you might like this.
(I've come to find out there's a scent out there for everyone, even if you personally feel like it's horrible and putrid.)
This is neither of those things, but it's most definitely not my favorite laundry scent. Heck, it's not even my favorite laundry scent from Front Porch!
To me, this smells like some sort of topical cream you might find in a Walgreens. Or something from a hospital. Well, the "laundry" part, anyways. Is it weird that it smelled a little yeasty? Despite this description, it's not bad, but it's not that good, either. It was strong, though, so does that count for something? I think the pink sugar is what saves this from being downright awful. I probably let this go on for too long at about 4 hours, but I'm sure it would have thrown like a champ for many more.
Needless to say, I wouldn't repurchase this.

~~~~~~~~~~
Front Porch's Pink Laundry Sheets
Cold Rating: 5/10; none of what I smell while warming (medicated cream, yeastiness, Walgreens) are there on cold sniff. It just smells like a stranger laundry scent with small hints of pink sugar.
Lit Rating: 3/10; nope.
Throw Rating: 8/10; strong throw, if only this scent was actually good!
Overall Rating: 5/10; not a fan of this. Needing laundry day revamping. Cannot discount this scent's strength but still slightly rounded down. Stupid leaking pipe connected to washer. Water damage. WASHER TOO FAR. Walgreens smells funky. Go on, girl.
Review: Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy's Serendipity Marshmallows
Serendipity used to be my favorite scent.
I couldn't get enough of it.
So, as many of us waxies do, we buy what we like. I ended up with an overabundance of serendipity and eventually got to HATING it.
I couldn't even stomach it for months...
...well, on Oscar Sunday this past weekend, I found myself reaching for my old friend.
Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy has one of the best, strongest serendipity scents in the wax world. Who am I kidding...Shanna makes some of the strongest stuff period!
Anyways, when I dipped into my big ol' box o' wax, I found this scent shot just calling my name. It was just what I needed to get back into serendipity again!
On cold sniff, it might be hard to tell that there is marshmallow in this because it really does smell like just serendipity. Upon melting, the coconut is strong here, and when mixed with the marshmallow, almost reminds me of a coconut cream pie type without the crust. The cherry is there, but it's not as strong as the coconut. I think the sweetness of the marshmallow really sets this apart from regular old serendipity proper. This scent was very strong for the first 4 hours and lessened after that for another 3 hours. I didn't mind, though, because I grew tired of it after it was fizzling.
I would definitely buy this scent again and am thinking about placing another order with Shanna in the near future because of this scent. It's a good'un, friends!
~~~~~~~~~~
Sugar & Spice Gourmet Soy's Serendipity Marshmallows
Cold Rating: 8/10; very strong on cold sniff and a much welcome surprise back into the world of serendipity! Lovely! Hard to find marshmallow versus serendipity sweetness overall.
Lit Rating: 8/10; JUST FANTASTIC. I don't mind that this has less cherry while warming because it's so good, though in a perfect world, it would. Sweet, strong, sassy.
Throw Rating: 8/10; very strong throw, I could smell this through our pocket door and into the TV room. Melodious, not odious!
Overall Rating: 8/10; crazy 8's across the board. Needed more cherry. Serendipity should be a drink flavor. Please don't think I'm an alcoholic. Marshmallow fluff is good stuff. Very good throw. Love this company, hard to get RTS anymore. Custom orders, huzzah!

Review: Lasting Scent Candles Pink Sangria (type)

All you actual weather-havers out there are going to think I'm silly for saying this, but it rained this weekend. I don't mean a little bit, it rained A LOT.
So much so that part of our backyard got a little bit flooded.
There was a crack in my window and the flood board of the passenger seat of my car got drenched. #SanDiegoProblems
HEY, before you get all judgy-wudgy, know that we don't get rain here very often, as referenced by our DROUGHT. :(
...type? Anyone know what the "type" here is referring to? (Nevermind, it's a Bath & Body Works type)
Anywho, being stuck inside this weekend, I wanted something fruity, but not something overly tropical like a straight-up coconut or pineapple scent. Pink Sangria sounded like just the thing to hit the spot.
I have been reaching for my Lasting Scent Candles tarts more often mainly because I feel like if I use them up, the Wax Goddesses will look down upon me and I will be able to re-order from them when they reopen! Well, hopefully. ;)
This scent was nice, decent in strength, and you could actually smell the drink in this! It was a fruit explosion with citrus notes, raspberry, grapes, and, well, lots of wine!
Unfortunately, the problem with this scent shot is that it fizzled rather quickly. I think I only got about 3.5 hours of go-time with this scent shot. I would repurchase this again because I liked it so much, but I wish the performance would have been different for me! That being said, it may do better in a different type of warmer. If you're looking for something tropical without being too coconutty or pineappley, this is your thing!

~~~~~~~~~~
Lasting Scent Candles Pink Sangria (type)
Cold Rating: 6.5/10; having never had sangria in real life, I'd imagine it is just as winey as this tart smells on cold sniff. I smell alcohol, grape, berry, and a citrus note. This is good!
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; this is a very good drink scent and can be classified as such because you can actually smell the drink/alcohol part. Often, that note gets lost in the shuffle. This tart is not overwhelming, though! Fruity, fun, but I wish the "pink" in this wasn't just a name...a little pink sugar never hurt anything. ;)
Throw Rating: 6/10; this one had a good throw, but it fizzled fast. Unfortunately, I like my scents to last a long time! But, while it lasted, it did pack a nice medium punch.
Overall Rating: 6.5/10; nice on a rainy day. Tropical without being too pina colada. Again, wanting a gigantic drink with an umbrella. Fizzy lifting drink. Wine. Never trying sangria. Grape jelly is a newly discovered love. Wish this had lasted longer!
Review: The Melting Fairy Wax Co.'s Box #2 Melted Review!
Hey friends! Better late than never, right? Box #2 from The Melting Fairy has been melted and tried and tested. Now, onto my thoughts! Looking forward to reviewing box #3, which I'm almost finished melting!
The Melting Fairy's Strawberry Passion
Cold Rating: 7/10; to me, this smells like a vanilla strawberry candy or cream-pop: luscious, sweet, fruity and with that "whipped" smell, almost like mousse.
Lit Rating: 6/10; surprisingly, this wasn't as strong while warming, not by much, but I could detect a difference. That being said, it still smelled nice!
Throw Rating: 5/10; medium throw that lasted 4 hours and lessened a bit more over the next 2 hours, for a total of 6 hours. Could have been stronger, but it wasn't too invasive.
Overall Rating: 6/10; great scent from box #2. Dropped off a bit in throw, but lasted a decent amount of time. This scent was nice, perfect for any kind of weather.
The Melting Fairy's Orange Cream Swirl Cake
Cold Rating: 7.5/10; this smells DIVINE. It's almost like a real dessert, like a 50/50 bar but with cake and frosting. OMG, it's hard not to rave about the cold sniff smell of this. Mmmmm, it's almost like I can taste the cake now!
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; The scents and throw on most of the melts I have had from The Melting Fairy are medium-ish, and this is no exception. Most of the time, I like my bakery scents medium, but this time, I wished it would have been in mah face strong because IT WAS SO GOOD.
Throw Rating: 6/10; the throw was a medium, too, which lasted 6-ish hours. I didn't want to relinquish this from my warmer so I left it until there was nothing left.
Overall Rating: 7/10; my favorite scent from this box. Wanting to have cake so, so badly. Delicious smelling, very realistic cake with frosting scent! Needing to find a recipe for an actual dessert like this.
The Melting Fairy's Orange Chai Tea
Cold Rating: 3.5/10; I just...did not like this scent. At all. It was oddly perfumey and soapy combined. I didn't smell any chai, any spice, or any tea on cold sniff.
Lit Rating: 3/10; as much as I didn't like this on cold sniff, I liked it even less while warming. It reminded me of this store I used to walk by at the mall when I was younger...overly perfumey, more mature, and again, no spice or chai or tea. This was almost musty, too.
Throw Rating: 4/10; the throw on this was low-medium, but I'm not complaining. Too much more of this scent would have been overkill.
Overall Rating: 3.5/10; my least favorite scent from this box. Reminders of horrible smells from my youth. Teenage dirtbag. No spice, no chai, unfortunately. Distance from tea scents. Needing real tea right now!
The Melting Fairy's Fruity Loops
Cold Rating: 7.5/10; strong for a fruit loops scent! Nice mix of cereal and that lemon scent that always comes out when you smell a fruit loops scent.
Lit Rating: 6/10; not sure what else to say considering pretty much everyone in the wax community knows how fruit loops smells, and this is good!
Throw Rating: 7/10; strong throw for about 4 hours, medium throw for 1.5 hours, low-medium throw for about 3 hours. Pretty long lasting for fruit loops!
Overall Rating: 7/10; your average fruit loops scent, but pretty dang strong! Fizzled kinda fast, but I could still smell this for a long time. Needing to eat cereal from a cup instead of a bowl and for dessert instead of breakfast.
The Melting Fairy's Coco Mango
Cold Rating: 5/10; I don't feel strongly one way or the other about this scent. It's okay, but nothing special. The coconut is a fresh one, and the mango is pretty sweet, but it's still nothing to write home about.
Lit Rating: 5/10; average tropical-type scent. Nice coconut, eclipsed by fruity mango.
Throw Rating: 4/10; not a stellar throw on this one, low-medium, and I could smell wisps of it as I moved around the hallway near the bathroom.
Overall Rating: 5/10; I hate to be so "meh" about this, but it really smells like any other tropical scent. It's not bad, but not a fav.
I find most of the melts are a medium for throw while decent on cold sniff. There are always exceptions, though! Box #3 has already been cracked wide opened and I only have a few left to melt. Look for the review shortly!
Review: Ava's Country Cupboard's Celtic Moonspice
...aaaaaaaaaaaand I'm back to the spicy spicy scents. I can't stay away for too long or I start to go crazy.
I ordered once from Ava's Country Cupboard  in the middle-fall of 2012 and didn't have the best of luck with her wax. Some of it was really downright smelly (sorry, but it's the truth!), and other tarts were fine, but nothing blew me away. Well, I'm a firm believer in second chances, so I made another small order at the end of 2013 to try some of her tarts again. I was pleased to see that her bags had changed since I had last ordered, and she is now offering TONS of shapes and an expanded scent list. WOOHOO! Plus, free shipping with a $10 order (at the time, not sure if this is still going on or not), I mean, how can you beat that?!
When I spotted one of my favorite scents on her ready-to-ship list, I knew I needed to try it! Ava's Celtic Moonspice came in a biiiiiiiiiiiig bread loaf, and I mean BIG. It might not look like it from the picture, but I could have easily gotten 2, perhaps 3 melts out of this.
Well, being the dope that I am, I didn't cut it up and put the entire thing in my warmer. Go big or go home, right?!
This scent was nice. It's your average celtic moonspice, cozy, comforting, homey, spicy, so I really had no qualms about how it smelled or what it would be like. This lasted 2 days in the bedroom, only because I didn't want to part with it. The scent started out medium-ly and fizzled throughout the course of those 2 days. Could it have been stronger? Yes, but I find I don't need my celtic moonspices to be sucker-punch strong. It was just a nice background scent, something I will always like and always look forward to melting!
~~~~~~~~~~
Ava's Country Cupboard's Celtic Moonspice
Cold Rating: 6.5/10; it's hard not to love the comforting aroma of spices, and this is no exception. Lighter than other celtic moonspice scents I've smelled, but not weak by any stretch of the imagination.
Lit Rating: 6.5/10; it's a nice, reasonable scent, nothing too special, yet just what I wanted. So, so lovely.
Throw Rating: 6/10; medium throw, not as overpowering as this scent from other vendors, and threw for a very, very long time (perhaps because I threw in the entire loaf?).
Overall Rating: 6/10; nothing special, but something loved. Medium all around. Giving vendors a second chance and benefit of the doubt. Changed wax bags.
