Sweet, lovely November. Halloween has come and gone (hope you didn't gorge on candy!), the election is about to be over (it feels like it has been years!) and now, we're (technically) in the full swing of the holiday season! Thanksgiving will be here in just a few short weeks, and before you know it, it will be all Christmas all the time! It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
The Band of Bloggers question for November is:
What does your ideal Thanksgiving day and table look like? What are you eating? Any candles or tarts burning/melting in the room? Who fills your table? Are you stressed? What does your house look like? How's the weather? Give us the deets!
My ideal Thanksgiving day starts early, the earlier, the better, even if we're not hosting! I like to open up all of the windows and let the November breeze (provided it's not sunny!) pour through the house. We usually have a light breakfast since dinner is such a glutton-fest. If we're providing food for someone else's dinner, we'll make our dishes and be extra prepared. If we're hosting turkey day at our place, chances are, we've already gotten a lot done! I'd like to say the day is stress free, but let's be honest, it's not! We'll usually be cooking right until the last minute. We usually have some guests come early, so we'll have snacks and drinks prepared. As for the actual dinner, turkey is, of course, a must. Rolls, gravy, my grandma's garlic mashed potatoes, my mom's stuffing balls, green bean casserole from my brother in law, perhaps a small ham, maybe another type of bread or starch, some sort of pie for dessert, and my famous pumpkin roll will fill our plates and mouths as we chatter over the hum of clanking forks and happy conversation. It will always feel a little empty without my mother in law, but we'll usually say something about her best the guests arrive. Of course, it'll be family, my mom and her husband's extended family, my brother in law and his kids, maybe a friend or two, and if we're lucky enough, my brother will make it back down from Portland. As far as scents, when we have guests, I load the house with cinnamon and apple scents, crowd-pleasers, I call them, and usually get compliments on how nice it smells. Really, it's all about family and love, no matter what's burning or what we're eating! Dishes can wait until tomorrow! ;)

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
That sounds so lovely. :) But seriously, when does entertaining that involves cooking NOT come right down to the wire? Always, at least for me!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful day! Does Freddo get scraps? You and I are pumpkin roll twinsies. Love those things. And what is this stuffing ball thing you mention??? I am a stuffing fiasco and for the past several years cannot cut the stuffing mustard but these balls sound intriguing. I was about to just call it quits and do a few boxes of Stoffer's Stuffing Mix but maybe the balls will be my answer LOL!
