Subscription Box Corner: May 2015 Treatsie Box Review!

I am way behind on my Treatsie box review YET AGAIN, but I want to get it out here now, so let's dive right into it!
The box, as usual. The same box as always!
Summary of the box's contents. They always have a monthly deal and an Instagram contest of some sort!
The dark chocolate brownie from Fudgeez Gourmet Brownies is a slap in the face to the words "dark chocolate." Wow, this was disgusting. Seriously, I almost threw this away and threw this up. You can see how dry it is from these pictures. Josh hated this, too. I am at a loss for words as to how gross this was. I don't know if I just got a bad one, or if it's supposed to taste like this. It tastes like a nutrition bar that someone walked on with dirty, crusty toenails. The frosting on the top is the "best" part, but that's like saying the choice between eating vomit, dirt and stale, curdled milk is good. Obvs, you'll pick the dirt, right???  I appreciate the effort to use organic cacao, but DAMN. Icknast. It's even more insulting that the brownies on the site are $8.99. WHAT? Plus, using a Z in your name? UGH. 0.5/5.
The Hard Crack Toffee cookies were both hit and miss. The first bite into these different flavors was good, but after that, they got stale and sort of flimsy real quick. Luckily, we ate most of these while they tasted good. Be prepared for a buttery cookie. The normal version was our favorite, 4/5. Sweet, concise, the the point, good. The, the mocha toffee and chocolate chip. 3/5 each. Pretty flavorful, but sort of weird.
Bequet Caramels are not a new product to this box as a brand, but the flavors offered this month were new and welcomed! The chocolate caramels were really great! A good combination of chocolate and velvety caramel, but nothing too fancy. 4/5. The salted butterscotch flavor was insane. SO GOOD. The salt was overwhelming in 2 out of 4 of the candies, though. The butterscotch flavor was spot on. 4/5. The cinnamon swirl caramels were my favorite. These had an excellent, strong spice flavor and it mingled well with the luscious caramel. Mainly, if the caramel is bad, you're sorta screwed, but this caramel is delicious. 4.5/5.

While the caramels were good and the cookies were decent, nothing makes up for that dirty tasting brownie. Yeesh. I am still reeling from it. Treatsie has been on the decline for me, and every month, I am tempted to cancel my standing order completely. I keep thinking something wonderful is coming, and this has led me to a couple of new favorite brands, but overall this month, I am unhappy with this box. Any thoughts on this month's box?

  1. I'm in almost total agreement with your review! I didn't find my brownie to be as inedible as yours; it was on the dry side, but not like spackle. The toffee cookies were a definite 'meh', not very flavorful, lacking in toffee flavor and, as you've stated, BUTTERY. I was aware with each bite that the calorie splurge just wasn't worth it. But then there's the Bequet caramels which were uniformly excellent!! WOW! I would gladly re-purchase these ANY time. The salted butterscotch model was my particular favorite but all three flavors included in my box were very, very good. This was my third Treatsie box (my forth is due to arrive later today) and I'm similarly on the fence about future orders. I typically get one, maybe two items that I like and the remainder are duds. We'll wait and see about that June box before making a final decision. Thanks so much for the review, I appreciate it!!

    1. I am actually glad to see it wasn't just me in regards to the brownie. Misery loves company in this case, because that thing was beyond nasty. The caramels, though, YUM! And the cookies, maybe a litttttle bit of a reservedness on the butter would have been better. I'd love to see other pastry types of items, but really, I have only liked 1 or 2 of these types of products. What are some of your favs from Treatsie so far?

  2. This was my first Treatsie box. I cancelled my subscription because of the brownie and the cookies. Such a disappointing first experience.

    1. I am really sorry you didn't have a better experience with Treatsie, and it's such a bummer this was your first box. Other boxes have been much, much better, I assure you, but I am definitely close to cancelling my subscription because of the May box. Let's see if they redeem themselves this month.

  4. Out of the last three Treatsie boxes I've received, the Millionaire Shortbread from....April?....and the Bequet caramels from the June selection are the clear stand-outs. Lots of good stuff, but none of it bowls me over. I honestly feel that I could find similar items at my nearest Cost Plus Import store. Maybe the items wouldn't be quite as fresh or as "artisan" but I feel the overall effect would be similar. The July box will be my make-or-break purchase from Treatsie. We will see!!
