Lightning Round Review #26: Vintage Chic Scents Mash-Up, Part I!

I have been going Vintage Chic crazy and have been melting through my stash so I can order more. Today, I bring you some reviews, new and old! Do you like VCS? What's your favorite scent?!
Annabelle Doll - Cranberry Strawberry Pomegranate. (Created by Karee.)
Vintage Chic Scents' Annabelle Doll
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 6.5/10
Throw Rating6/10
Overall Rating6/10; couldn't really smell anything I would describe as cranberry in this blend, but it was nice and fruity. I just wish it would have been stronger. Lasted 4.5 hours in the bathroom 2 different times as these leaf tarts are huuuuge. Her strawberry is one of my favorites!
Beverly Hills Hotel (strawberry, raspberry and guava) + Ziegfeld Follies (pomegranate and mulberry)
Vintage Chic Scents' Beverly Hills Follies
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 6.5/10
Throw Rating6/10
Overall Rating6/10; another blend of a ton of scents that sort of drown each other out almost. It still smells good, but isn't all that strong. Sweet, fruity, but not much else. Medium throw, lasted 3 hours in the bathroom before I wanted something stronger. The strawberry and guava were the most noticeable of all the "ingredients."
Bluebird Cafe - Freshly picked strawberries
Vintage Chic Scents' Bluebird Cafe
Cold Rating8/10
Lit Rating: 8/10
Throw Rating8/10
Overall Rating8/10; such a wonderful and fruity sweet scent! This is nothing but strawberries but it is smashing, baby, yeah! Lovely, strong, lasted 6 hours in the bathroom, even for a 1 ounce scent shot! Always repurchase. This is so nice.
Bride of Frankenstein - Apple Blueberry Wedding Cake
Vintage Chic Scents' Bride of Frankenstein
Cold Rating5/10
Lit Rating: 6/10
Throw Rating6/10
Overall Rating6/10; usually I am not a fan of blueberry, but when mixed with cake and apple, it sort of didn't smell half bad while warming! It seemed like this one ouncer didn't throw as well as the leaf scent I had in this same fragrance, but it was still lasting, about 5-6 hours each time in the bathroom. Not bad! Cute name. Do yourself a favor and watch "Frankenstein," the original with Boris Karloff
Cape Cod was a favorite getaway for high society during the 1950s and 1960s, including John F. Kennedy. This scent, including salty sea spray, sea weather driftwood and a hint of water lily, is the perfect escape.
Vintage Chic Scents' Cape Cod
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating6.5/10
Overall Rating6.5/10; what a lovely combination of scents! I love sea salt scents, and the driftwood sort of overpowered in this blend, and it was pretty floral, so I would have liked to smell more of the salt. This was better than I expected while warming, though! Lasted 5.5 hours in the bathroom. Clean, fresh, lovely, will definitely repurchase.
Central Park Snow Globe - Peppermint Creme Noel
Vintage Chic Scents' Central Park Snow Globe
Cold Rating9/10
Lit Rating: 9/10
Throw Rating9/10
Overall Rating9/10; a gift from the wonderful Jacqui at The Scholarly Nail, I LOVED THIS SCENT! It was so minty and creamy sweetness, but the blend was absolutely perfect. This was a huge snowflake shape and I melted the whole thing and I swear it lasted over 2 days. It got lower in throw, but it was still lasting! SO good. Yum. Always repurchase!
Charade - Pink Sands, Pink Chiffon, Cotton Candy
Vintage Chic Scents' Charade
Cold Rating7/10
Lit Rating: 8.5/10
Throw Rating8.5/10
Overall Rating8.5/10; oh. em. gee. My nose doth deceive me! Another scent where I thought it was going to be one thing but ended up being another. Uber perfumey because of the pink chiffon, but managed to get toned down by pink sands, which is weird because that's usually so strong. Good balance of those of these dupes mixed with a sweet cotton candy scent. So wonderful! You need to like perfumey smelling scents for this, IMO. Lasted 7 hours in the bathroom, and I had it going for 2 hours in the bedroom because I moved the warmer elsewhere. Repurchase!
Curse of the Bambino - Until they broke through with a World Series victory in 2004, the Boston Red Sox endured one of the greatest superstitions in sports history: the Curse of the Bambino, which dated to 1918, when the Red Sox made the foolhardy decision to trade Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Includes fresh grass and uplifting citrus.
Vintage Chic Scents' Curse of the Bambino
Cold Rating5.5/10
Lit Rating: 5/10
Throw Rating6/10
Overall Rating5.5/10; something in Curse of the Bambino was off to my nose. I thought I might like it, but no. The combination of a grassy scent and some sort of fruit was not for me at all. I only had it in the warmer about 2 hours before I dumped it out due to not liking it. I love the description, but didn't care for this. It still had a medium strength, though!
Deep Slumber - Pink Lavender Vanilla Honey
Vintage Chic Scents' Deep Slumber
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating: 6.5/10
Overall Rating6.5/10; pink sugar, lavender, vanilla and honey? What could go wrong? Well, nothing, but this was a bit more overwhelming that I expected, a bit more mature smelling. The honey definitely changed the "tone" of this scent. Not for worse, just differently. I enjoyed this, though, and the throw was about a mediumish. Lasted 12 hours in the bedroom 3 different times and now, it's gone!
Elvis in Hawaii - You'll be all shook up when you melt this tropical concoction of coconut leaves and Palm Beach Cooler. (Both are BBW types.)
Vintage Chic Scents' Elvis in Hawaii
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 7/10
Throw Rating6/10
Overall Rating: 6/10; very tropical but not as strong as I would have liked it to be. Nice and tropical and coconutty, but nothing special. Love these scent shots, though! Lasted 4 hours in the bathroom and I *might* repurchase it.

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #58: Thirty Street Wax's Prince Humperdinck

INCONCEIVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thirty Street Wax's Prince Humperdinck
Cold Rating7/10
Lit Rating: 8/10
Throw Rating8.5/10
Overall Rating8/10; smelled a bit different on cold sniff, but something wonderful and tropical came out while melting, almost like serendipity but not quite?? Wonderfully cool embeds. Cute color wax. Excellent scent descriptions. Strong, lasted 8 hours in the bedroom. Cherry, pineapple, orange delight. Light whiffs of coconut. Immediate scent as you walk into a room. Wax with a theme, named after a fantastic movie. One of the classics. Twue Wuv. "Keep away from pets and children." Is Humperdinck  spelled right?! Who knew?!

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #57: Up The Creek Scents' American Cream

*sung to the tune of "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean.
"American Cream, don't know what that's supposed to mean...But you make my house smell good, like no other wax tart could."
You wish you could flow like me.
Up The Creek Scents' American Cream
Cold Rating6/10
Lit Rating: 7.5/10
Throw Rating7/10
Overall Rating7/10; unsure if I would like this based on its cold sniff scent, but it was really nice, even if it was unlike me to enjoy! Fresh but slightly creamy, perfumey but slightly fruity, what a complex scent with a lot of unidentifiable things! Milky, velvety. What does milk smell like to everyone else? Medium-high strength in the bathroom, lasted 6 hours. Round robins. Generous friends. Smelling clean. Wanting this in shower gel form. L*SH dupe (since apparently you can't say L*SH without problems???). Asterisks. Sucker for stars in wax.

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #56: Vintage Chic Scents' Three Little Birds

I don't want to say I'm tired of late year scents yet, but I am now beginning to incorporate more springy wax in with it, slowly putting winter on the back burner.
Three Little Birds: Strawberry Daquiri and Orange Pina Colada.

Vintage Chic Scents' Three Little Birds
Cold Rating9/10
Lit Rating: 9/10
Throw Rating9/10
Overall Rating9/10; brilliant mix of sweet and fragrant pineapple and coconut, medium amounts of orange and little wiffs of strawberry. Not any alcohol or fizziness in this, which I assumed would be the case. Such a luscious and semi-tropical scent. Pina colada scent the heaviest in this. Lasted 8.5 hours in the bathroom at an uber strong strength. Could smell this in the bedroom when the door was opened. Excellent scent names, themes and scent descriptions from this vendor. One of my top 10, if not top 5 vendors. Gaw-geous and ginormous rose shapes. Two-tones colors. Two melts from each big rose. Thinking about sipping tropical drinks on a beach somewhere. Daydreamin'. Light pink slowly moving up as one of my favorite scents.

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #55: Rosegirls Celtic Moonspice Coffee

In the past, I have been notoriously anti-coffee scents in wax because of a bad and skunky experience.
Let me tell you, it scarred me for a long time.
Luckily, it seems like I have grown past it.
Rosegirls Celtic Moonspice Coffee
Cold Rating7.5/10
Lit Rating: 8/10
Throw Rating8/10
Overall Rating8/10; Rosegirls probably has the best coffee scent in wax. It is very lovely, mellow, not super harsh, smooth and a little creamy. The celtic moonspice isn't really there on cold sniff, but does come out a bit more while melting. Strong! Lasted 8.5 hours in the bathroom. Wanting to try cinnamon in my coffee but not knowing how it will taste? What do you put in your coffee? Cute new (sort of?) square labels. Not being open all the time, but new Mini Melters ready to ship!? Purdy colors in teh wax. Teh. Gifties from friends!

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #54: Front Porch Candle Company's Apple Mango Tango Marshmallow

Do you reserve clean or fresh scents for laundry or cleaning day? I have gotten into that habit over the last year or so, but I love fresh scents, so it's hard to save 'em!
Apple Mango Tango laundry type + marshmallow
Front Porch Candle Company's Apple Mango Tango Marshmallow
Cold Rating7.5/10
Lit Rating: 8/10
Throw Rating7.5/10
Overall Rating7.5/10; creamy marshmallow, one of Front Porch's best scents combined with a delicate yet floral laundry scent. Really excellent blend, tones down the harshness of a straight clothesline type of fragrance. Strong in the bathroom warmer, yet strangely mellow because of, again, that brilliant marshmallow. Probably my favorite marshmallow scent in wax. Lasted 6 hours. Never had a bad blend including marshmallow. Saying marshmallow too much. Fluffy clouds. Reminds me of fluffy towels. Cleaning day. Laundry day. 2 baskets overflowing as we speak. Needing laundry pods. Heavy baskets. Daunting. Fresh laundry is one of the best scents in the world.

Swift & Supersonically Snappy Short Review #53: Flaming Star Scents' Wild Strawberry Pomegranate

Happy January! I haven't updated since my last Order of the Odor post and I apologize for that. Enjoy a more spring-y review since our cold spell is over!
Flaming Star Scents' Wild Strawberry Pomegranate
Cold Rating7.5/10
Lit Rating: 7.5/10
Throw Rating7.5/10
Overall Rating7.5/10; quite a wonderful melt! Fruity, pretty strong, bright, not artificial. A delicate mix of sweet and pungent strawberry and dark pomegranate, you can definitely smell two distinct different fruits in this mix. Made the house smell good for 2 days in certain areas, lasted 8 hours melting in the bedroom! I love Flaming Star Scents' "Thank You" bar samples. Vendors who do different molds for their wax. Adult shaped wax. Again, unnecessary name changes throwing me. Forgetting to order from this vendor more often. Short TAT. Cute new logo.

Order of the Odor: Volume 5

This month we are doing a mini version of some of our waxy favorites of 2014, please let us know what some of your favorites were too!

Most Comforting Scent:
It's a toss-up between my all-time favorite, Front Porch's Pink Peppermint, and newcomer Lake Providence Lodge's The Lodge's Kitchen (spoiler, read below).

Best Spa/Fresh Scent:
Tiffany Candles' Pink Sugar Rosemary Mint. So refreshing, so clean, so wonderfully amazing!

Most Energizing Scent:
Rosegirls Alice in Wonderland, Front Porch's Pink Peppermint (yes, again, seriously, I never get tired of it), Candles from the Keeping Room's Serendipity Marshmallow Delight, or iheartwax's Blonde Moment.

Favorite Bakery Scent:
Either Up The Creek Scents' Raw Cake Batter (lick the air good) or Beezy's Toasted Marshmallow, which is so totally not bakery, but close enough, right?

Favorite Fruity Scent:
iheartwax's Pomegranate Rosemary Mint, blended by my lovely friend Deb, or

Favorite Wild Card Scent:
Sniff My Tart's Cake Batter Fudge Wildberry Mousse Vanilla Waffle Cone. A mouthful to say, but one of the best things I melted this year. I received it from a SMT mystery bag and it did not disappoint! It doesn't get much more wild card than a mystery bag!

Favorite Scent Trend:
I feel like cotton candy frosting and watermelon were both huge scent trends this year, so I will go with that! Pink sugar is pretty much always popular somewhere and that's one of my favorite blenders, too.

Husband's Favorite Scent:
Anything with apples and spice. He loved the apple clove butter mentioned below, as well as a couple of other apple/cinnamon/celtic moonspice blends this year!

Husband's Least Favorite Scent:

Stinker of 2014:
There were a few, actually. Orchid Lake Candles' Watermelon smelled like chapstick and straight-up wax. Orchid Lake Candles' Lemon Lavender smelled promising on cold sniff, but was weak. Candles from the Keeping Room's Ambrosia had almost no scent whatsoever. As far as stinky goes, I melted a couple of smelly coffee and caramel scents, but can't remember off the top of my head who made them.

Favorite Scent of 2014:
Beezy Tart's Apple Clove Butter, for sure. UGH. So amazing!

Have you been curious about the Yankee Candle Scenterpiece? Deb shoots straight from the hip on this review of Yankee's newest warmer. See if you need to put it on your wishlist or not.

Grab a napkin (to wipe the drool from your chin) and a cup of coffee and head on over to Sunnee's place to see what outstanding muffin blends this gal ordered and photographed for our veiwing pleasure. Oh! Bring a pen and paper too, you are going to want to write these down.

The best scent of all time?! Yes, of course it has earned a coveted 10/10. Come see what is making Lauren go gaga from a relatively new vendor.

Black Friday Deals abound! See what Julie's favorite haulage included this year in wax. It was a steal of a deal.
