Review: Granny's Kountry Candles' Peppermint Bark

Most people like chocolate, right? And mint, what's not to like about mint? I'd even go as far as saying chocolate and mint are two of the greatest tastes ever combined.
Well, this combination of chocolate and peppermint was......off. Something smelled like plastic while I was melting Granny's Kountry Candles Peppermint Bark simmering melts. I couldn't shake it: I fell asleep with this going and woke up and still smelled off-brand chocolate and plastic. I always triple check to make sure there's no "other objects" in my warmer before I turn it on, and upon inspection, there was nothing. Not being able to smell anything but this and a faint hint of mint makes this scent not a repurchase for me. I have not had the best of luck with GKC. :(

Granny's Kountry Candles' Peppermint Bark
Cold Rating: 6/10; it smelled like a nice mix of peppermint and chocolate, with a little more emphasis on the chocolate note.
Lit Rating: 4/10; disappointed in this.
Throw Rating: 5.5/10; (BLOGGER, STOP EATING MY POSTS!!!) This was medium strength.
Overall Rating: 5/10; you know Russell Stovers candy? Try something cheaper than that, then mix it with a faint mint and some sort of plastic and you've basically got what this smells like. Unimpressed with GKC so far, must try and prove myself wrong!

  1. So you don't like Russell Stovers?

I've not heard many good things about the vendor's products. I certainly have no intention of trying them. And isn't this the one that's somehow connected to someone? That was vague, I know. I never understood what it was, someone is selling these on commission or something weird?

    1. *I* like Russell Stovers, but most people I know don't because they are affordable so they automatically think they are bad. Their dark chocolate box is pretty damn good in a pinch.

I melted something last night from GKC and I actually enjoyed it, but after hearing lots of reviews about the bottoms of scent shots breaking out, I figured I'd melt through them all before they had the chance to break.

As far as it seems, yes, GKC *does* have people who sell their products (like AVON or Scentsy) so they can profit from selling wax, which is why many YouTubers have links at the bottom of their videos to their GKC sites...I guess if someone didn't know any better, it benefits them to click their links. Sorta shady, I just went straight through the main site so I don't know who got the commission. =/

    2. Hubby used to get a box of chocolates from work each year at Christmas. It was from a local, handmade candy shop and it was sooooooo freakin' good. There is another local shop like that nearby and just about every holiday I ask my menfolk for chocolates from there but I never get them. We've actually gone to that store only once. So yummy, but pricey too.

  2. I've decided I will only try new vendors that I happen across from destashes I buy. I see too many people making purchases with new vendors and it doesn't work out too well for them. While I'd love to be able to be one of the first to try out a new company, I don't have as much disposable income as I'd like and I make big orders to save on shipping. I'm actually very lucky with stumbling across Jmae's Soaps and Candles, because she'd said we could combine my destash along with anything I bought from her and I was able to save on shipping. Other companies I have no experience with I'm wary of trying, simply because everyone's experiences with different companies/products are different. For me, I look at the service of the company, not their scents or product 'quality' as deemed by others.

I still have yet to choose who to make an order from. I tried Tiffany's Candles, but she had that whole shipping issue ("sorry, we do not ship to this location") and I was wary of putting in my PayPal information before being able to see shipping (I know they say flat rate shipping, but I like to SEE it before I click "submit order"). I know she's been prompt in fixing that issue with others who've experienced it, but I was a little turned off by the experience and decided I'd wait. I don't need the wax right now, anyways. It was more of an impulse buy, which I've been guilty of doing before.

    1. That's a good idea, to only purchase from people you've come across in destashes, at least that way you have a frame of reference of the vendor! Everyone has a different nose and every vendor's items are different even if it's the same scent!

I guess she resolved the "shipping" error but it came back again, I pushed enter multiple times that night but only got charged once, so it didn't do it multiple times, if that's what you were wary about!

    2. I don't do destashes because I want the full buying experience. I guess I can see some perks to doing destash, like if I'm wanting some Lasting Scents but don't want to wait that ridiculous turn around time, and you have a bunch of Lasting Scents already that I can get in a week ... ok, yeah. Then again, I'm not likely to then go order from LS directly because it's back to that ungodly TAT.

If that made ANY sense. LOL!

  3. The packaging looks cute but that's too bad about the wax itself. It's a bummer when things smell off.

    1. It's definitely a total bummer this one didn't work out. It just smelled cheap...I feel bad saying that but it's true. Ugh. :(
