Weekend Wax Review: January 4-6

Welcome, one and all, to the first Weekend Wax Review for 2013!
...wow, it's even hard to type that on the keyboard, ha!

Are you all ready for some WAX?!? :D
Unfortunately, I started off with a stinker this weekend. I just did not like my sample of Christmas Rum Ball from Ava's Country Cupboard...there was an overly artificial rum smell, and it was fakely sweet, too. Something was off about it, and it lingers long after I turned off the warmer. On cold sniff, 4/10. While warming, 3.5/10. It was strong though, 6/10. Overall, 4.5/10. Not a repurchase for me, but I do like Ava's products!
Cupcake Candles claim to fame in the wax world has to be their sampler boxes. Well, I got my hands on one during the winter box run (I did have a 20ish% off coupon, too)! It's been curing for a few weeks, so I decided to start with my samples. I have no clue what's in Christmas Dreams and I could not find a scent description on their website, but it was overly floral and perfumey. It might should be renamed "sexy lady," ha! It smelled sort of like old lady perfume, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but this one was...off. It was just okay. On cold sniff, 5.5/10. While warming, 4/10. The throw was a 5.5/10, for a total of 5/10.
The second of my samples from Cupcake Candles. This one was nice, but not super strong! It was creamy and you definitely got a vanilla scent right off the bat mixed with nutmeg and cinnamon, a la eggnog, but...there wasn't very much "nog!" I did enjoy it, though! On cold sniff, 4.5/10, not overly strong. While warming, 6.5/10. The throw was a 6.5/10, for a total of 6/10.
This must have been sample weekend! Ollie's Soaps' Peppermint Bark was a decent blend of peppermint and chocolate...so, what is bark? Is it only ever strictly white chocolate, or is it only ever strictly regular chocolate, or can it be a mix of both?! I smelled a creaminess to this mixed in with the chocolate and peppermint. I did enjoy it! On cold sniff, 6/10. While warming, 6/10. The throw was a bit less, only a 5.5/10, because it didn't travel outside the room too terribly much. The total on this sample is 6/10!
Corn is all the rage in the wax world, it seems. Try as I might...I just cannot with the corn scents! Every single time I melt something with the word "corn," the only thing I smell after a while is Fritos! This was no exception. At first, there was a distinctive apple fragrances filling the air, but then.....chip city. BLEH. On cold sniff, 5/10. While warming, 4/10. The throw was 5/10, for a 4.5/10. Not a repurchase, but I'm determined to find a corn scent I like, dang-nabbit!
Trying my first scent shot from Kim's Tarts, this was just alright. Not super strong and the orange was artificial. On cold sniff, 4/10, virtually only a hint of orange. While warming, 4/10. The throw was not strong at all, 3.5/10, for a total of 4/10.
My very first (well, second) Snap Stick from my Streetman Candle box! YAY! Unfortunately, I think I should have waited a week to let these cure, the throw was very light on my pomegranate Snap Stick! On cold sniff, 5.5/10. While warming, just 5/10. The throw was a 4.5/10, for a total of 5/10, and my fault for being impatient. :(
Tiffany Candles, as you know, is one of my favs. Tootsie Roll, however, is not a fav. It's really hard to get into chocolate scents. This was similar to the candy, though. On cold sniff, 5/10. While warming, 4/10. The throw was good with a 6/10, for a total of 5/10.

That's it for the weekend recap! Have a nice night, everyone! :)

  1. Ohhh...not a great wax week it seems! Are you ordering from Tiffany at midnight (or 11:00 pm tonight for us, I think)?

    1. Yeah, I think this was the worst weekend I've had since I started the weekend wax reviews! Goes to show you samples aren't always good smelling, HA!

    2. Did you end up ordering from Tiffany's?? I did.....and spent more than I wanted to. BUT -- I think I read Gary say there aren't going to be coupons for a while, so I had to make shipping worth it...

      /end justify mcjustifier :P

    3. I didn't order - I did have a lot of stuff in my cart but in the end I made myself choose between CFTKR and Tiffany's and CFTKR won. I am waiting for the shop to reopen. I am pretty sure it's gonna be a big order!

    4. OOoooooooh, cool! Carol has so many awesome sounding scents for the re-open....HOW WILL WE DECIDE?! And over 30 samplers?! GAH! She should take our credit cards now. :P

  2. Yes ma'am! I have my alarm set for 9:58pm so I can get right in at 10pm our time...I want that sampler! :D

    How about you?

  3. Aack... I'm still not decided on whether I want to order from Tiffany's or Shayz Scentz! Given my limited budget, I'm tempted to go with Shayz Scentz as I won't have to worry about shipping at $25. I'm really big on free/low shipping.
PS when I made that list earlier, I'd completely forgotten about Shayz Scentz. Today I finally narrowed it down with a couple tarts I melted.

    1. Did you order from Tiffany's or Shayz? I have heard mixed reviews about Shayz, some of her stuff is supposed to be fantastic while others fizzle and have no scent. $25 orders and free shipping is really good, though! Haley's Heavenly Scents has the same policy, I belibve!

  4. Wow, duds galore. That always sucks. How has your luck been overall with Ollie's? I still have the two packs I ordered sitting here, haven't tried them yet, but something just keeps attracting me to Ollie's.

I haven't used Kim's for a long time. That's a shop I'm always meaning to go back to because it's so affordable, and then I never do.

I see Caramel Spice is one of the new CFTKR scents. I think my attempt at not buying so much will be cancelled out soon. LOL!

    1. Kim's.....I just don't know. Their bags seem to suck out a lot of the scent in the wax. They ARE affordable, but I don't know. When you ordered, what scents did you get and/or like from Kim's?

Overall, I have been really impressed with Ollie's! Her apple scents are ridiculously strong, and super fresh! All of her other stuff is pretty strong and tends to last multiple hours if not overnight completely.

LOL, I didn't heard about Caramel Spice....that sounds amazing! And you know Carol will make it fantastic. Dang it......I swore I wouldn't order again this month, but maybe a few bags won't hurt?? You're a pusher, Deb! :P
